Re: Air Con
When we had ours fitted in the main bedroom, the installer (luis Soares) said the portable ones were pretty useless as they used too much power and had to get rid of the heat they generated themselves from the motor and fridge unit. There was one for sale on here last year but there were several similar comments made at the time.
Re: Air Con
We used SACL they were very good. The put in three Daikin A/C units with one motor outside.....not cheap but very good!
Re: Air Con
purchased new build and two units fitted. neither worked satisfactorily last summer. accused of 'breaking' the units by tampering with outside box. disputed this strongly.(They said that 'someone' tampered with outside outside box fittings but as we don't rent were able to dispute this.)outside box and one unit removed for repair. on next visit (to be fair to the air con maintainance firm they turn up when requested.) all reinstalled - one unit worked fine - one didn't (its now december) informed that only a minor problem with 2nd unit but would take a few weeks to get part. Returned in Jan and second unit and outside motor removed once more and informed that it would now have to be repaired in workshop) was back in CVO (yep, I am that black cat)since last thur and 2nd unit and motor reinstalled. tested. all working fine. woke up on friday morning to find oil dripping from 2nd unit. contacted maintainance company and just asked to 'watch' drip and see if it stopped - back home tonight. Drip was pretty constant through the saturday/sunday, eased on monday but still there this morning. rang the company again but apparantly on holidays today. so lots of kitchen roll underneath the unit. anyone here know what the purpose of oil in the units is for - presumably lubrication of some sort? contacting the company again tomorrow but won't be back out now until may. ( you have all been warned - if its rains in may dont blame me) even with the loss of oil this unit (and the other one) both did what it said on the tin since last thursday, just as well as it was b****y freezing. and wet. did it forget to mention the rain during our visit. any more of this and they will have to change the colours of the Portugese flag to an emerald green.

Re: Air Con
What make were the units?
Re: Air Con
included in price so suspect bottom of the range. Daitsu (Daihatsu) fans were working last summer but not even slightly cooling the apartment. other apartments were fine but as we are at the end suspect they just installed them and left without testing them. before leaving last August we tried to use the heat function. again plenty of air being distributed by the fan but no heat. we only complained in October, and this is when they said there were working properly and must have been tampered with by someone (as if). Thanks

We're probably going to go with Paul Whitworth, but I just find it hard parting with so much money up front!bradybrooke wrote:hi matryx

Re: Air Con
We used Mr COOL , very reasonable price and good standard of work, his prices were much better that the suggested expat supplier.

Re: Air Con
Wonder if there is a closing down sale ???????????

Re: Air Con
Paul was slightly cheaper than Mr Cool in the end, and I've sent him the deposit now, so it's too late anyway
I'll let you all know how it goes.
