A week of (over)eating

Go on then Tricky - give us a summary of Ferragudo restaurants (which are actually nearer to me than most CVO ones)

When we lived in Sesmarias we used to use the Ferragood(?) restaurant, good food, good value & usually busy. We also liked the restaurant at the end of the quay, Sueste I think it's called.

We usually pop over to the Ferragood when we are staying in Carvoeiro to dine with some friends who live in Ferragudo, nice place, good food but might be advisable to book as they are usually busy. Run by a Portuguese fella Gilberto and his Dutch wife Wilma.

I would NEVER go to Soueste again. They charged me 28 euro JUST for a small size golden bream which was so overcooked it was inedible. This is when we were the only people in the restaurant so an overworked chef was not the reason!

Barnard's in Ferragudo is also a really pleasant restaurant. It has a good vegetarian menu too and the desserts are to die for

I loved reading your review but think you must have driven past Vila Nova restaurant several times without trying it! What a tragedy! Not only would you have had a fantastic meal in a lovely restaurant, but it would have saved you a small fortune in taxi fares.

In ferragudo there are several we love.

For cheap, decent food and posh surroundings (not) it has to be king of ribs, on the way to Portimao, so over the bridge turn left and its on the right
on the hill. The menu consists, of: ribs, prawn curry, salad chips and sometimes mussels. Its about 11 euros for ribs. the owner is good fun, but be warned
it closes on the dot of 10.00pm. (don't dress up)

our two newest discoveries and I've forgotten the names so will describe the location.
go over the bridge at Ferragudo and down the alley immediately opposite. The first one is directly in front of you (on the path parallel to the road)
Its owned by a english women and the kitchen is run by her portugese husband. Very good, great steaks and homemade fire water. popular with expats
but very reasonable. need to book.

At this restaurant turn right and follow the alley. Exceptional portuguese restaurant, again basic decor, but great food. you will have to que, very cheap.
and as someone else said. The Ferragood restaurants, also very good and reasonable.

I've heard Bernards is good too.

We try to avoid the fish restaurants as they are very expensive, better to go to quayside at Portimao.

I think i am going to regret these recommendations

But as Sandy says, you can't beat the Vila Nova restaurant. Mention Sandy and Christine and you will get even better service (if thats possible)

Thanks for letting me know about the weather now - I have never played golf in such violently windy or wet conditions (but still shot a 76 which just buggers up my argument that it ain't worth playing in the rain 'cos you will always have a rubbish score )
