I've got Global coming in after Mr Cool on Monday, so I'll let you all know how it goes. I'm really more concerned about keeping the place warm and damp free during the winter, but cool air in the summer will help as well.

We were fortunate in that our builder included all of the air con pre-engineering for all of the rooms. So we bought a jocel unit (12,000 rated) for €269 from Leroy and had it fitted by Louis Soares for €150.

I agree, we use Filipe at Louis Soares foreverything he is a gem, completed our refurb last year and new pool this year.
Trust him completely and will use him for air con

you should be able to do that - most units have a timer to set on/off times and you can set the temp, then lock the controller in the safe!

You may not be aware but with many remote control units you can just open the unit and press the manual overide button or the forced cooling button?? A better and not expensive solution is to have the power supply to the air-con units routed to a single lockable distribution box with a timer controlling the supply. That way you can at least regulate the time the units are on. In addition you could add a thermostat to regulate the power supply by temperature but clever clients could direct a heat source (such as a hair drier or wafer heater) to the thermostat to trick it into thinking it is warmer than it really is!

Why not just get the meter read.

I was talking to some one on the flight last week.

They do just that , they allow their guests a certain number of units and the cost of any usage in excess of that is deducted from their security deposit.

This has helped reduce their electricity bills and use of aircon.

I've just had the first quote at 6,000 euros, which is a bit of a shocker. However, the room sizes are quite large so the capacity quoted for is related to that. Nonetheless, it made mt eyes water. I'll let you know what the other one comes in at and then PM the details.

I was quite shocked with the prices quoted for the hardware from local suppliers, so I contacted a UK distributor based in Stockport when I got back. We could buy exactly the same equipment, same brand etc, for little over 50% of what we were quoted in CVO. The delivery cost is around £300, which still makes it a massive saving. Not sure what to do yet, as you need a local dealer to be prepared to install and/or fix it if something goes wrong. I'll let you all know the outcome?

We have a mobile unit in the UK. It weighs a ton, is very noisy and you have to vent it outside. For the few times in the year when it gets uncomfortable, we stick it on full blast in the bedroom for a couple of hours before we go up. The room is ice cold and the sheets nice and cool, which allows us to get to sleep. I'm not sure they'd do for a holiday let.
