Intermarche card

On our last visit to CVO in Jan we signed up for an Intermarche loyalty or discount card. However, despite the assistant trying her best to explain the benefits of having the card we dont understand how it works. Do you accumulate points (as per Tesco/Dunnes etc) which translate into vouchers for using in the shop? Or does it allow you discount on shopping ? quite confused as the shop assistant (we think) stated that if you shop on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday you got 10% discount on the whole shopping and if you shop on other days you only receive the 'discount' on certain goods. We did a 'reasonable' amount of shopping but no matter on what day we shopped there did not appear to be any discount applied to the total, nor any indication of points accumulated. Obviously something was lost in translation so any reply appreciated. We are back out next week and would just like to know how the card works. From reading other posts on this Forum it would also appear we should have a look at a supermarket in Lagos near the waterpark roundabout as it get a lot of positive comment on this forum.

The supermaket is Poa da Azucar on rd to the water park after the island Lagoa-portimao Rd. Pingo Doce on the left before Lagoa on CVO-Lagoa rd is also much cheaper than intermarche, but not so much choce

We only use Intermarche for the rare item we cannot get anywhere else, the store is badly laid out, the queues are long, prices higher and unless you are addictided to familiar UK and Euro brands the other supermarkets, Pau a Suca ,Continente ( portimao, tesco type loyalty card ) and even Pinge Doce are much better.

Our preffered store is Pau a sucar but we go to Continente for the loyalty points and cheaper fuel.

It will be interesting to see what Jumbo will charge at the new fuel station.

We have had one of these cards for a while. You do not get a 'discount' all the time - only on certain items that are marked up as you go round the shop. This 'discount' is not taken off at the till but added into a running total that is shown on the bottom of your receipt. I think there is only a discount of 10% on your total shop on Sundays and Public Holidays. I have not tried to use the total I have built up, but as the cashiers never ask about it I would guess you must go to the service desk at the entrance to the shop and collect a voucher or something? Hope this helps a bit!

The Intermache card accumulates your discount, each week there is a leaflet that showsthe offers, basically by showing your card you get extra discount on a Monday (Segunda-feira), other discounts vary eg. some items are discounted on a certain day only and the purchase of that item that day may give up to a 50 % discount, you pay the full price and the discount is added to your card, the same applies to others special offers that may be on the whole of the week in question.
If you want to use the credit on your card you just tell the girl on the till and she will deduct if from your bill, you will most likely need ID to prove you are the card holder, as anyone could use your card if they found it.
I do not use Intermache much but the deals that are sometimes available make it worth a visit if it is a product you particulary like. I got 50% off two bottles of Gordons Gin one Tuesday .

thank you all for your replies, much appreciated . I now understand how the card works (I think!), will try Poa da Azucar later this week and see how it works out . slightlly off topic but has anyone come across Nordic tonic on their shopping around CVO/Lagoa ,prefer this tonic to Schweppes but so far has eluded us.
