I've asked this before but have still not come up with a solution yet. We have a 60cm dish on our roof, which is presumably pointing a the uk Astra satellite. QdP say we need to offer German, Dutch, Portuguese and UK TV. Now I believe this can be done with two, off-set LNBs. Can anyone advise on this and also recommend someone to do the job. A guy in Lagoa has been recommended but I don't know how to find him. If anyone has a similar setup, I''d be interested to know how well it works in the rain.

The 60 cm dish is a little small for Dutch and German t.v. Ideally you could do with an 80 cm dish to receive a good reception from the Astra 1 satellite that Dutch and German is transmitted on.

The 2 lnb's you talk of are to allow you to receive both the Astra 1 and Hotbird satellite from 1 dish. For U.K. t.v. you require at least a 1.3 mtr dish aligned to the Astra 2 satellite.

Thanks simmo, I think the dish is probably closer to 1.3m. The previous owner used it to pick up UK TV, so I guess it's ok. Do Sky Realm have a shop in Lagoa?

That dish should be fine for the English t.v. then. All you will need is the 80 cm dish for the Dutch & German. Sky Realm are mobile only.

I've tried an offset LNB on my 1.45 m dish and I can get astra and hotbird ok. The LNB can be picked up from ebay for £10 -15 - in PT they will charge you nearer € 50. Fitting it is simple - same fitting as on the normal LNB, but of course you do need another cable to be run from the dish to the setbox.

I have been told you can do this with a single cable and use a disq switch at the other end. I havent tried this as the idea of having to do a manual changever seems a bit tedious.

Personally, I havent really found that much worth watching on the several thousand hotbird channels that are available .

Can you use the same receiver or do you need a different one for each satellite?

Out thomson box enables us to chose from a wide range of satellites.

I will have to check is this option is also available on a Humix box

Macassa I think iv previously told you that you can get a LNB for a fiver if you look hard enough, that doesn't mean that its a quality make or the correct decibel rating, but lets suppose you can get one for 15 pounds, perhaps you will move to Portugal buy a van place an advert employ staff and guarantee all your work for free. if not you will probably find this is why a 15 pound LNB will cost 45 pounds to have fitted. Its the same as eating in many restaurants in Carvoeiro and paying 15 euros for a 3 euro steak, but you still go for dinner!!

As far as Hotbird and Astra 1 i'm not surprised your getting them from a 1.45 mtr dish with a cheap LNB on it because you only need and 80 cm dish for these.

Simmo - I am not arguing about the cost of someone providing a service in Portugal - merely advising that if someone wants to do it themselves, its quite possible to buy the bits in uk much cheaper. Anyone who decide thay want it done "professionally" have a range of suppliers and should expect to pay a going rate.

However if anyone needs - for instance - a new freesat, sky or receiver box, you can buy them in the uk from £40 from Curry's, Comet etc. even cheaper "2nd hand" off e bay. The price in Portugal is much more than that - around € 100 for a new freesat box I understand. That would probably include "fitting" but as that's a mains plug, re-connecting the scart and screwing in an existing connection, I think that's way overthe top!

As regards the receiver - you need one with multi satellite capability, not just a Sky box.

I totally agree with what your saying about boxes, indeed the best thing for people who live here is to buy them from Amazon.co.uk who do free delivery to Portugal.

this quad lnb is specially made for a sky,uk mark3 /4 dish it may want modifying to fit it to a normal offset dish also it wont fit a prime focus dish if thats what the poster has
