Prices in Portugal

I don't think anyone compared them, it was an answer to a question about food and wine prices. Of course most don't have the BBQ grilled food, weather and by the sea ambience, well in ABZ we have plenty of sea but crap weather most of the time but does that mean if you have those factors you should pay over the odds. Granted maybe a little more but not to make it unaffordable. You are not taking into consideration the points I made about restaurants other than Wetherspoons. As I said, there are good prices out there.

Vesta curry! - streuth that stuff nearly put me of curry for life - as recall it looked like small peices of dried cardboard and didnt taste much better when reconstituted by boiling.

I much preffered my meal at O casearao in Lagoa to that we had at the much hyped ele and ela.

Nor would you ever be likely to see us in one of the UK pub chains as price is not everything.

I agree but not everyone can get around on holiday that easily and are stuck with the food & prices in their location. Never been to el and ela, think it was too expensive As for the UK pub chains, yes occasionally I do but less now that the kids are grown up and no longer come with us. We can now afford good food

I think that we would all agree that the village does need a good piri piri or rib restaurant with a simple ( basic menu ).
Those of us near Boavista are hoping that we will soon have just that.

As clearly you would not be a customer if we had one it would not be of interest to you anyway.

You just have to look at how busy those out of town are to see that there is a market and could influence others who with the current captive market do not try that hard during the season.

You are right - it is not for me but to each their own. I don't understand your reference to the above - who or what are you referring to as being out of town and being busy?

I refer to the small local restaurants in or near Lagoa, there are similar in Pera, Guia and Algoz .
We have been to some where in summer queues form at the door in the evening ( and they are not in the resorts ).
They are as popular with locals as with those tourists who have found them.
Carvoeiro can go down the road of offering better value without aiming at the cheap and cheerfull UK market.
It will be interesting to see how the new cafe on the in road does.
It seems to offer good value and is certainly not just aimed at the tourist, has anyone tried it yet ?

The restaurants in Carvoeiro will always be comparatively more expensive by virtue of the fact that it is a resort town.

Those of us that live there for any length of time will have discovered that there are far more interesting, and cheaper, restaurants within a 15 minute or so drive.
