Air Con

I know this subject has been covered before, but can anyone recommend a reputable supplier of air con/heather systems?

We used Paul Whitworth at Global Ohmega in Lagoa (tel. 282 353 046). We specifically wanted Daikin split units as they are very good quality and their inverter system is excellent. They are more expensive than the likes of Sharp etc. but worth the extra. Paul came round to discuss the locations of the internal and external units. We were concerned to have the external units as inconspicuous as possible - so many houses have these mounted as an after-thought halfway up an external wall and ruin the look of a property. He was very sympathetic and managed to install the units where they are virtually invisible from sight, with neat ducting of piping between internal and external units. We are very pleased with the finished results. The hot air heater function has also been great this winter!

Mr Cool (Telmo) is a real gentleman and has had lots of great reviews on this site and I have used him now on 3 occasions. First class service without a doubt and the General units are virtually silent in quiet mode which is great for bedrooms.

We can seriously recommed him. His start time was 8.30 am and was at the door at 8.25
The installation was very professional and the job was finished on time.
All instruction were carefully explained and they left the villa in a very clean conditon.
If you want the best, use this guy.

We were fortunate in that our builder included all of the air con pre-engineering for all of the rooms. So we bought a jocel unit (12,000 rated) for €269 from Leroy and had it fitted by Louis Soares for €150.

What should we expect to pay /room for aircon from these recommended installers ?

Depends on the room size, availability of services etc. We had Samsung fitted in several rooms at the time of refurb but found the units too noisy at night. Cost for 4 rooms (ceiling cassettes) was €4444. You can buy cheap units like macassa did but after a lot of research and discussion with the owner of a villa rental/management business about what units he fitted in his own new build we went with General units from Mr Cool (Telmo Rodrigues). We originally went for two additional units and recently added a third. They have a quiet mode you can use at night which you simply cannot hear.

We had a quote from an expat company which was prohibitive.
As we have also discovered with our original apartment if you do not get them properly serviced once year them whatever the brand they do not last.
Holiday makers do not understand how to use them leaving then running for 24hrs day some times with door and windows open.

We have a friend ( a real techie ) who has installed a wi fi system in his villa where he can actually turn the aircon off or raise the temperature from his home in the UK.

This has substantially reduced their energy costs and extended the life of the units.

We do not rent out so do not have problems of the sort you have. There has been quite an interest from several owners on the subject of controlling the air con for the very reasons you mention. Perhaps your teckie friend could market a "solution" in a box to solve the problem?

Just looking at aircon units at Vial Carpentaria - single 9000 btu €239, 12000 btu €269 (same as we paid for a Jocel) however I noticed an odd thing which I have now checked as the same on Leroy and IZI - if you buy a single 9000 and external unit its "x", so for two sets this is 2x, but if you buy 1 Double unit - two room units and one external unit of the same rating it is 2.5x ???? how come?

I would like to be able to pre program the remote unit so that at least the temp is locked and set it not to come on during the day time.
