Tourism budget cut !
Tourism budget cut !
The Algarve budget for tourism advertising has been cut by some 50 % - about 4 million euros

Am I wrong in thinking that this relatively small amount of saving is an extremely bad move. Surely in a situation like now they should be doing everything to boost any area which brings income from abroad and tourism is the main source of such income in the Algarve!
It seems that some of the promotions are not proving succesful such as one in Norway

but as the article says the promotion is too low key and lack of success may be due to that. I have rented my villa out to Norwegians and they absolutely loved their holiday and the Algarve. Surely it is exactly at times like now that they should be spending more to create interest in new markets as well as the established ones and to fight off the growing competition.
I understand that there have to be cuts in the current economic climate but to me this looks like a very short sighted saving and will only add further to any problems.
