Savings account
I'm considering a euro savings account that I can use to top up the current account and earn a bit of interest. Any suggestions.

Re: Savings account
I'm told the tax implications alone make it not worth the effort.

can't really comment on your personal tax situation, DB is worth a talking to if you want to earn more from savings than most other banks.
Re: Savings account
Having a Euro savings account that you can top-up when exchange rates are in your favour could be advantageous even considering differing tax rates country to country but given the state of some countries economies and banks at the moment I would look carefully at which country you choose to have the account based in. Portugal, Greece and Eire might be places to avoid.
