I received a call this morning from a Villa Manager friend who looks after two properties on Monte Servo and there was another break in last night. Can't see no end to this as they know there is absolutely no opposition other than get caight in the act by a owner who is tooled up and will no doubt get prosecuted for his actions. A very sad state of affairs.....

It works well where I live in Lincoln. I am the Coordinator, and the more that take part, the safer you all become.

Unfortunately the neighbourhood watch scheme relies on the fact that there are neighbours. Many of these places are like ghost towns out of season with few permanent residents to observe any misdoings. Better than doing nothing but not sure how well it will work.

w go out every month so its true that we are not there on a permanent basis.but if we set up some sort of data base thing with peoples addresses on etc so we could maybe walk past & check things when we are out there .not a brilliant plan but at least its a start

Each time I come to the Algarve I always pop around to see that pato's place is OK. Also, Mike, Chiselhurts (where we have stayed for the past 7 years). If 'neighbours' did this on a more regular basis, it might make a difference.

If it helps and - I am happy to offer to drive around and view any 2 properties from the exterior on a regular basis - say, every other day. We don't live in the Monte Servo or AdM area but it only takes 5 minutes to get there from our place.

If anybody would like to take me up on that - please pm me to discuss.

Jonboy re the ongoing crimes in Carvoeiro & your email to Clive Jewell, did you receive a reply from him? We as a group had very positive replies regards the rise in crime on the Algarve in general and he was very concerned about it , resulting in meetings with the president of our local camara (ie Albufeira & and outlying areas ) & the GNR.Whether the authorities act on it is another thing, but at least they are aware someone is voicing their concerns, and we will keep voicing our concerns until something is acted on. The neighbourhood watch is a very good idea if you have enough perminent residents to do it, and hands up to Shanagarry, you have a good friend there if he is willing to check over your properties.

this all sounds like a good idea; we live on VDM, next to ADM and would be happy to join in on any scheme if folk would like to get one going

Well there's two of us - over to you owners if you would like some help.

Can I ask if any of the burgled properties were alarmed with the attendance service built in (Charon)? I ask that as we have one of their alarms and our cats have recently activated it - they (Charon) were there in minutes :)

It is definitely worth installing a monitored alarm system. I'm all for helping people to check on properties whilst away, but a monitored alarm is a deterrent, and even if a burglar gains entry, the alarm creates an element of damage limitation as they have restricted time before the GNR turn up (hopefully?). It's really sad that there are so many posts on this subject, so we have to look at all protective measures possible to reduce the amount of crime blighting the area.

you are spot on about the monitored alarm system as thats exactly what happened at our villa, they got in by forcing a small window in the upstairs cloakroom toilet&as soon as they opened the toilet door to go into the hall the alarm was triggered&they fled without taking anything
