Portugal's bank fire warnings

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Live News: Watch Now

"Portugal's central bank has fired a warning shot about the country's financial firms.

Its said the banks face an 'intolerable risk' if the country fails to consolidate its public finances.

The Bank of Portugal is also urging urging the financial sector to reinforce its capital in the years to come.

The government there has adopted painful austerity measures in next year's budget, but execution of those spending cuts has been poor so far this year, with the national deficit actually widening."
