Get togethers?
Get togethers?
Well, we've made the leap of faith and are now resident!
I know there are no longer any regular get-togethers organised in local hostelries, but is there a favoured hang-out where we can meet new friends?
Do I have to wear the orange badge

Re: Get togethers?
In the past I have often thought the evening meetings were either too late or were too loud and were often both. A daytime meeting for chat is much better.
We met with Louiseh, Shanagarry and Roy4eyes at Sesmarias Cafe (Rosa's Cafe) one morning for a drink. It was nice and quiet and the drinks were very reasonable. We wondered if it would make a good meeting place. You could meet in the morning and have a nice quiet chat, and, if the mood took anyone, arrange to meet later that evening.

I agree. The look on Sharen's face when she got the bill and a round for 5 cost less than a single drink in the Square was quite something
Incidentally, a lot of the locals (ex-pats and portuguese) have a 'get together' every day there

Re: Get togethers?
I've heard it can go on for sometime though.
Sandy this only applies if you're female, there is an expat' ladies lunch every Tuesday. A friend goes & she really enjoys it, they go to typically Portuguese restaurants which are very inexpensive & anyone is welcome as far as I know.

How would you define that?blue wrote:I've heard it can go on for sometime though.
As MC stated - we met and had a really pleasant get together that took around 2 hours at most - is that too long?

Is the question too difficult?blue wrote:I've heard it can go on for sometime though.
It's nothing to do with having a sense of humour failure - simple question
Re: Get togethers?
It's a joke, it doesn't have, or require, a simple answer, just like 'how obtuse can you get?'

I thought jokes were supposed to be funny - or at least have a tag-line.blue wrote:It's a joke, it doesn't have, or require, a simple answer, just like 'how obtuse can you get?'

Re: Get togethers?
Back on topic:
Meetings need at least one person to be at the agreed location at the time(s) expected, every week (or for whatever schedule they are running too). This is always the problem. e-R and R4 often sat in bars for hours with noone (
) turning up all night. How awful for them was that?
Before you decide a location you need to decide a 'host' who will be there. It was at one of the earlier meetings SEE HERE and it was this that led to my further involvement with the forum (much to many's dismay
).
I would love to see the meetings back on again, even though it is highly unlikely we could attend (so it's not all bad!). So, which ex-pat will step up to the plate and say, "I am Spartacus, meet me here."?

Oh I'm sorry Michael, you mean like your witty efforts? Perhaps I should have put a few smilies after it, just to make sure.Michael Crane wrote:I thought jokes were supposed to be funny - or at least have a tag-line.blue wrote:It's a joke, it doesn't have, or require, a simple answer, just like 'how obtuse can you get?'
Michael you really do put the 'B' in subtle.
