Vets in Carvoeiro/Faro Area
Vets in Carvoeiro/Faro Area
Hi
We are bringing our pet cat over to Portugal from Malaysia in a week or so. He has all the necessary vaccinations, documentation and microchip ID. However we need to find out if there are any other requirements e.g. a period of quarantine and/or health check by government licensed vet. Can anyone recommend a good vet in the area who could give us some advice/help with this? An email address and telephone number would be very useful.
Thanks
Sandy

Re: Vets in Carvoeiro/Faro Area
We used Solvet in Lagoa & they were very good, at least the female vet Dr Maria was, I wasn't entirely happy with the treatment the male vet gave to our German Shepherd, they are based near the Donkey Sanctuary charity shop not at the Fatacil. There is a new veterinary practice on the out road (Rua de Barranco) in Carvoeiro that advertises a state of the art clinic but I don't know anyone who's used it yet. Having moved out to the sticks near Algoz we now use the vet's at Guia just after the round-about on the N125, very well known & very good, they have taken excellent care of our 4 dogs & cat.
I hope your cat has a good journey & arrives safe & well.

Thanks for your responses. Our emails to Solvet keep getting returned - does anyone know their current email address?
We had intended our pet to arrive on Saturday but we are told by the airline that the relevant Faro customs officials only work Monday-Friday so we would have to pay overtime for a Saturday arrival. Unfortunately the airline doesn't how much this might be - any ideas?

If I'm not mistaken, there's a new vet in the units right opposite Harry's Bar in the out road. I have no idea of the name or contact number but maybe if anyone is visiting Harry's Bar they could get the contact details.

The card I have for Solvet is old and shows email addreess as solvet@netvisao.pt and also a website www.aaia.PT/Vet-Net. If you are using this and getting the messages returned I will contact them tomorrow and check for you. It is a bank holiday here today.
Re: Vets in Carvoeiro/Faro Area
That would be enormously helpful. Thanks Steve.

Re: Vets in Carvoeiro/Faro Area
This is the vet I mentioned. I suppose pet owners would rather go on recommendations. As yet I've not met anyone who's actually used the new practice, would be good to hear from any of their clients.
Re: Vets in Carvoeiro/Faro Area
I know nothing about the new vet in CVO and have no reason to doubt their capabilities but I prefer to stick with the vets who have dealt very ably with my animals over a number of years and with whom I have built up a rapport. However good the new vet in CVO may be I would not fancy trying to park near their premises in the summer whereas this usually presents no problem in Lagoa.
Re: Vets in Carvoeiro/Faro Area
Yes parking is very important, especially when you've got a dog the size of a small elephant to carry in.
Re: Vets in Carvoeiro/Faro Area
I have used Villa pet in carvoeiro and they are very good. I used to go to Ghia, but as i live in Carvoeiro i had to consider the cost of fuel as well as vet bills. Claudia is very caring (and as a German Sheperd owner) i was delighted to see her intercation with my dog. Which is just as well as she is going in tomorrow to be spade. very anxiuos. Would highly reccomend them.
