Wonder if anyone can help me please?
Im looking for a place to rent with 'online' facilities for a month.
Has to be within walking distance of CVO centre (dont mind half a mile/there abouts)
Ive considered usual holiday accommodation but I will be working/writing so need online connect. for laptop in order to do research/and for sending work.
Anyone have any ideas as to where I can get info/website etc?
Thanks very much.....Ellie

Why dont you get yourself one of those fancy Vodafone GPRS/3G cards and just buy a rechargeable sim-card when you are out here. That way you can be online anywhere, no strings (cables) attached? :)

Maybe some of the forum locals could let you have a room for a month? :D They could even be mentioned in your book or research?

 Hi Ellie, what a shame our place is so far out of cvo otherwise you would have been welcome to use it, we are at present having a phone line put in as hubby is attached to his laptop at the hip! can't go anywhere without it, he has a vodaphone mobile connect card that he puts into the laptop for work, but it is quite expensive to run.
I do have a friend who runs a few rental homes as lets, I will see if she has anything available and get back to you.
Thanks for the e-mail.

I would offer you our house Ellie but I don't know when completion is likely to be yet :( (but I do know there's a phone line!)
We should be moving out there round about the end of Sept but hope to have the house a few weeks before then.
We have just come back from a week sorting it all out. What fun!

I like to be near CVO Gerry, (particularly as Ill be on my own for couple weeks)as I know folk there and feel 'at home' with the place :)
'Grass dont grow on a busy street'......means youve a good brain/quick/lively......least..I think thats what it means.....my uncle used to say that about himself...he was as bald as 'Yul Bryner' but very quick witted and good looking too..well..I thought so anyway :)

you can use the internet at the public library in lagoa free of charge ...although you have to book time in advance.

Ellie - you can create an account with oninet.pt free of charge which allows you to be online to your heart's content for the price of a local call (only a few Euros for a whole day online) and surely much cheaper than GPRS etc. (The instructions are in Portuguese but even I managed it by applying a little bit of logic when filling in the form which you can do whilst still in the UK) - You would therefore only be looking for a property with a phone line which I would have thought would be much easier to find.

Mail me if you want help setting up an account.

Hi Ellie,

We haven't corresponded before but I have followed your discussions with interest. Just wanted to say that we arrive in CVO tommorrow and I have the same problem as you with regards wanting internet access. I noted Grahams reference to ONinet.pt and decided to give it a try -
Now not speaking a single word of Portugese I managed in about three ninutes to set up an account - so thank you Graham and I look forward to hopefully keeping in touch.

Another little thing that I find invaluable is a website called gotomypc.com - it works just like pcanywhere (ie you can operate your desktop pc from anywhere in the world and access files, programs etc) BUT it works over the web, not as a long distance dial up, and therefore it only costs you a local phone call to plug into your office network and as far as anyone knows your are still in the UK!

It does cost about £60 a year but if you spend more than a few weeks away and need to stay in touch it is brilliant - I am sure that I could not take half as much time away in CVO as I do without it!
