Tried Zit Auto. As well as my OCD I am a Conspiracy Theorist and as such I have to ask the question - why does an overseas car hire company want to know my private home address? This information together with my holiday dates sets alarm bells ringing. No other car hire company has asked me this. Email address, mobile number, age etc.... But NOT a personal address!!

They only accept cash when you pick up the car and giving them your name and address is a lot less risky than parting with your credit card details - something they have never asked me for.

We used Auto Jardim up to 2 years ago, unfortunately old age caught up with my husband and he couldn't put up with the hassle of dropping the car off and being shuttled to the airport We used Zit autos last month and will certainly be sticking with them for our next trip.

We used to use Carjet, but found prices high this year. Used Luz car rentals, as quote was much cheaper. Also on airport pickup and drop off. Had same good service, and no extra charges.

That says there are 26 fortnight holidays per year !

The calculation should be £280 * 25 * numberofholsperyear.
e.g. only one holiday per year over 25 years = £7,000.

But even that assumes that a fortnight's rental 25 years ago also cost £280

Well - my brain is pretty much now frazzled after visiting several car hire web sites. I cannot find anything better than Economy Car Hire - £179.00 for a four door Matiz for fourteen days is incredible. I have not booked yet but progressed on their web site and even with a charge for credit card booking it is still only £182.00 !! I even telephoned their UK number and THEY confirmed the price was right. The next best was Zit Auto and Algarve Driver who both came in at 280.00 Euros (£240.00 ish). So, as much as I would like to support Carvoeiro.com and our very own Steen, I cannot ignore the price from Economy Car Hire.

Just a word of advice Lamby - check the small print and look at the excess they will need to ring fence on your card. Or the amount they will charge for the added insurance. I always tell people to shop around but read the small print!

We have used ECH- Drive 4 Fun 5 or 6 times for the last 3 years and have never had a problem. Cars are always nearly new/low mileage and we have never encountered a single problem and as you say they are very competitive.
