at this time of year now that all the tourists have gone and the nights are getting dark & chilly we like to get out much more for a nice lunch in the beautiful autumnal sunshine;
The Island Cafe was a lovely lunch spot which is now closed so we're reviewing our places to go and were wondering if anyone had some suggestions and favourites.

our core list is;

O'Branco, between the tennis club and QDP, great range of prato da dia's, nice restaurant & fab value.

Tia Theresa, on 125 between Vale da Lousas and Aqualand, 3 or 4 prato da dia's each day, nice atmosphere, friendly staff.

Donato's, Sesmaria's, discussed on here already, love their pizzas.

Marisqueira, top of restaurant hill, sat alone one day in Villa Medici paying evening prices for ok food, looked across the road to the heaving restaurant and guessed we were in the wrong place, & we were.

O'Stop, on Centiannes beach, nothing outstanding, don't know what it is about this place but it's a great spot, nice staff & they'll do you a plate of delicious liver & bacon

Rui's, on Praia Grande, don't think it's called Rui's but it's down the big steps & all the way round to the right, Rui's a lovely guy and always has something interesting to cook if he's been fishing, lovely little spot.

Try heading inland and stop at a roadside cafe that has a few trucks and other local transport parked outside. A Police car is a good sign, as they know the best places to eat. If you don't speak Portuguese, take a phrase book.

Have you tried Carlos's Beach Bar, (well shack really), in the middle of Grande Beach between Armacao De Pera and Gale? Miles of beach to walk in both directions from the bar. Best oysters we've had and ok prices. If you find the road (track) you can park within 100 yards.

Another to add to your list is Original, just past the Carvoeiro tennis club. Prato do dia (€7), usually a choice of two dishes, and a full menu if neither take your fancy. A favourite with locals but also expats

Fatacil in Lagoa. Around €7 for three courses including wine (or any other drink). Good, basic Portuguese food. Nowt fancy.

O Litterol near Benegil, follow road down to beach and then up again, its on the cross roads
and has tables outside, really good fish and nice sea views. Tuna fish salad is really good

We had a lovely meal at O Litterol - the sea bass was delicious as was the fish stew.

thank you for these so far, we love oysters so Carlos's will be getting a visit, have passed O'Litterol hundreds of times but never been in so that will get a visit too; will search out Original,
smacking my lips already, keep 'em coming

We love oysters too, who's Carlos? We usually go down to Lagos for oysters.

Carlos's Beach Bar, (well shack really), in the middle of Grande Beach between Armacao De Pera and Gale? See if you can find it on google earth first as the road to it is a bit tricky to find by road. Just follow the beach from Armacao De Pera east towards Gale and in the middle of the beach is the bar. Let me know if you find it.

If you can bear to visit Praia da Rocha there is an Italian style restaurant about 500 metres from the fort called La Dolce Vita serving very good pizzas and pastas. They have now opened a self service buffet next door where you can eat as much as you like got 7.95 at lunchtime. A multiple choice of hot and cold food, and the chef from next door keeps coming round to offer you a slice of freshly cooked hot pizza. Very good value.

Absolutely delighted that Originals has re-opened.
It was our absolute favourite when we have visited carvoeiro.
In Our Opinion Only (before I upset anyone) much better food than anywhere in CVO town when it was
Original and then the Rodizio.

What sort of food does it do now?
