Not quite sure I share your sentiment MC - a pain in the arse is the same in any country :D

I have eaten at A Vela three times this year and on each occassion the food has been excellent and I would thoroughly recommend it. They also have a good wine list. All reasonably priced. Incidentally they do not do chips, which makes a refreshing change.

The best Christmas entertainment I had was when MC met Pato!

Instead of the expected pistols at dawn, it was hugs all round. :P

We were in there last week and had chips (well French Fries actually). Great place and great food every time we've been.

They do serve chips, depends on what you order & then they give you a choice chips or cheesy potatoes (sort of Dauphinoise), very nice. :D

Whilst the debate on chips is no doubt fascinating, could shanagarry please also enquire about NYE when you dine there , and find out if they have an email address please?
Thanks

I've never heard of this restaurant, but it sounds great, so I'll give it a try the next time I'm out, which hopefully won't be too long :D

We've just got back from the village having gone into A Vela:

* There is New Year's Eve party (Portuguese style)
* Entertainment (Don't know who - yet)
* Cost €39 Euro per head
* Soup at midnight (Portuguese tradition)

Their e-mail address is vela-lusitana@netvisao.pt
Phone: 282 084 177

The hosts are: Paulo and Antonia Valerio

Hope that helps :)

Sorry if I got the bit about the chips wrong!

Paulo and Antonia are a lovely couple and run an excellent restaurant.

Thanks for replies and information from everyone.
There seems to be a few things on.

I hear Ma-Ja's are also doing Xmas day lunch as well as New Years Eve dinners.

Is there any entertainment or celebration on the square for midnight??

Thanks
RR

Hi Shanagarry
Could you please check the email address for them, as I get a mail failure using it?

Geoff - they very seldom use their e-mail. I was told that by info@myalgarveinfor.com when I tried to make contact initially. When we went there yesterday they told us they don't check it regularly.

The phone's best :)
