we've been using Direct Transport for years, they have a depot in Andover, Hants., and one now in Porches, used to be Albufeira,

We have used both with no problems. Algarve Removals collect from your UK address , but with Direct Transport you need to have goods delivered to their warehouse in Andover. Both have given us a good service in different situations.

I think you will find that Direct transport do collect from your home, they collected 11 boxes from us earlier this year and delivered them to our Quinta near Lagoa, very efficient and friendly.

We previously had a positive experience with Direct Transport, but our most recent experience was negative and we can no longer recommend them.

Goods (bathroom furniture) arrived with damage to vanity unit drawer fronts and other knocks and scrapes and we looked for compensation from Direct Transport for the damage only to the drawer fronts as the other damage would be largely concealed on installation. Direct Transport advised us that the goods were inadequately packaged, causing us to question why they were accepted for shipment when we delivered them to the Andover warehouse. They also stated that our delay in reporting the issue had exceeded the time limit for an insurance claim by Direct Transport whereas no time limit for reporting such issues is shown on any documentation provided by them. Direct Transport also claimed that our initial email reporting the damage was not received, though they appeared to have no difficulty receiving subsequent emails from us.

We asked Direct Transport to visit our villa in order to inspect the damaged goods but were advised to bring them to the Porches warehouse for inspection which, at significant inconvenience to ourselves, we did. Initially, they were sympathetic and indicated during two meetings with them that they would provide some compensation. When we subsequently sent a quotation for replacement drawer fronts to Direct Transport, we received an email bluntly informing us that we would not receive any form of compensation from them.

So, Direct Transport may be OK when everything goes smoothly, but in our recent experience, they don't accept any responsibility for goods entrusted to their care at the Andover warehouse, quote conditions of transportation after rather than before shipment, and string you along with false promises when discussing issues arising from the shipment. Not worthy of recommendation in our view.

Yes, Direct Transport will collect from your UK address but this is more expensive than delivering to their Andover depot. The only two times we have used them was for an integrated dishwasher and cooker hood bought on line and consigned to their depot in Andover and a spa pool pump/heater/filter unit replaced under guarantee in the UK. All items could be fitted into a hire car for collection from their depot, now at Porches which is quite convenient. Our main delivery from the UK needed to be collected in the UK and delivered to our home over in Portugal. Algarve Removals gave a much better price.

We used Algarve Removals.
Picked up from the house in Surrey, only charged for the square meterage actually used, delivered exactly when they said they would in the Algarve.
