Censorship + Moderation = Disservice
Re: Censorship + Moderation = Disservice
Actually, I do reply to lots of other posts as well. 943 posts on the subject of Mazza is probably a bit high for me. I think I have made less than 10 altogether. Although, with Rossi running around quoting me right left and centre, it probably appears far more than thatmac wrote:Funny how Mandy Hughes only replies to posts regarding this Mazza.
Re: Censorship + Moderation = Disservice
FMM I am interested to know which of the following is true????
Having used Marion's services for a year, quote from FMM last week OR
the service I received from Mazza in 2008 as opposed to the service I received in 2010
which is clearly more then 2 years or dear yet another lie.........
this is really starting to look like a patten.

Sorry fmm! I meant this rossi person. They were obviously quoting you signing off as Mandy Hughes. I really can't follow these rossi posts as they do tend to jump around.

Can we return to the topic of Censorship + Moderation = Disservice?
Shannagary why don't you contact Steen directly with your ideas?

Re: Censorship + Moderation = Disservice
It is an idea to set something up in the FAQ, but honestly, I would think a sticky in the property owners forum is better for the matter in question; that is exactly where I would look as a new property owner and I would certainly not ignore the very first topic?
Secondly, who'll read through 20 pages of blabber trying to extract facts if we let the insults pile up in each topic?

Re: Censorship + Moderation = Disservice
It's good to get the reaction this topic deserves but it was not intended to regurgitate the Mazza issues - it is purely to do with avoiding having such a serious matter deleted because the criminal fraternity turned it into a slanging match.
To achieve that objective can I suggest (and I know it is not easy) for those who are drawn to retaliate - count to 10 and leave it. The only way that breed of people can and will be defeated is by intelligent debate. Trust me

Sharen - I have done as every effort to have this matter dealt with intelligently - is met with the same 'argy-bargy' and it gets us nowhere.Sharen Crane wrote:Shannagary why don't you contact Steen directly with your ideas?

Re: Censorship + Moderation = Disservice
We never delete a post, off-topic and offending posts are moved to a moderators forum; nothing relevant to the topic in question have been removed.
Re: Censorship + Moderation = Disservice
New media often comes with a learning curve and whilst we do our best to find a balanced method to contain some of the ridiculous content that some users post on here, it does surprise me how sometimes even the most reasonable people fail to see the basics of forum comunication.
As far as I am concerned, everybody is "anonymous". We have no way of checking who is posting or whether or not what they say is factual unless we have personal insight or invest a huge amount of time investigating. The first is rare and the second simply not viable.
Over the last few years I have noticed a growing tendency to "black-list" rather than "white list". It reflects poorly on us as a society, that we would rather be fed with piles of negative (and in the case of the forum, mostly unverified) information instead of relying on positive feedback (which, admittedly, is equally unverified), but I digress.
In practical terms the forum was designed as a comunications platform and was meant to carry a distictly positive tone about the beauty of living or holidaying in Carvoeiro.
It was never meant to be a safeguard against the misfortune of falling victim to bad service via internet recomendations or the stupidity of going into buisness without doing due dilligence.
There are tools and platforms that are designed to do this, but carvoeiro.com is not one of them.
Personally, I feel that these two forum "types" are diametrically opposed and your attempts to fuse the two for reasons that boil down to practicality and simplicity will end this forum as you know it.

Re: Censorship + Moderation = Disservice
I agree that the first priority of this CARVOEIRO forum should be to put a positive slant on the area its attractions and the benefits of living here , be it permanently or as in our case part time.
We seem to spend far to much time on minutiae ( self included ) debating the state of the chairs outside of restaurants or the state of the traffic posts.
We forget that casual users could be put off hoidaying here reading some of the posts. They could easily get the impression that we are just a moaning old bunch of fogies obsessed by subjects that we have done to death tima after time.

Re: Censorship + Moderation = Disservice
Perhapsa it wasn't meant to warn people about whom to avoid - but it does now, and I think such a 'service' is invaluable and one this forum should culitivate. The recent Mazza incidents are well documented and from reputable members - unlike the 'anti' brigade who would rather see such information kept away from members for their (perhaps) criminal benefit.Gambrinus wrote:....It was never meant to be a safeguard against the misfortune of falling victim to bad service via internet recomendations or the stupidity of going into buisness without doing due dilligence. ...

Michael, you of all people know how ill-equipped a free forum is to deal with real trouble-makers.Michael Crane wrote:Perhapsa it wasn't meant to warn people about whom to avoid - but it does now, and I think such a 'service' is invaluable and one this forum should culitivate. You are right, this service is invaluable, but the real logistics behind something like "crimestoppers" vastly exceed the capacities of the people involved in running the forum. It is not something you can simply incorporate.
