winter wood

Post by sunman00 »

hi all,

the wood sellers have begun knocking at the door; this season's price seems to average €105 per tonne from those we've seen so far,

does anybody have any recommendations of wood suppliers?

The problem is a tonne is too large for non-permanaet residents - someone advised on the forum this year of a wood pile on the Guia-Gale rd - priced at €2/15Kg ?? so you could get a load of ~ 75Kg in your boot for 10! If that's too much Pingo sells 10Kg bags for ~ €2.30

If you are only going for a boot load, try the wood yard on the way to Silves golf course. Two catergories of wood and as you load it yourself you pick the log size to suit you.

Ignore most of those close to CVO they sell overpriced rubbish that takes ages to light or goes up in a flash.

Agreed...... the road side, large barrow/small barrow vendors are a rip off.
As Peter Allis once said 'Trees are 90% air'.... and so are the barrows. Best bet is the wood yard. Normally the lad working the day shift will fill your boot for €10 and pocket the cash. ( everyone (( except the yard owner, who is oblivious and probably filthy rich anyway)) is happy) .

Where is the "wood yard" you refer to? Sounds like Silves is the best bet. We do not want a lot and had a pile of rubbish last year which caused a lot of smoke.

Take the Silves road and then follow the signs to the Silves golf course ( right turn ) . You will find the wood yard on your right.

2 grades, mixed and olive wood.

Hi Superbocker

Is this on the right hand side going down the hill, close to Julio's?

With the change to cooler weather thought we would stop off to buy 100kg of azinho this morning.
Believe we paid 15/16E/100kg last year it is now 18E/100kg.

Always a fun experience, grandson obviously just got out of bed assisted by Grandad and a set of scales which have never seen the local equivalent of wts and measures threw in a couple of extra logs for luck.

We have used them for the past 3 years as the wood is always of a superior quality .

€ 180 per tonne seems a ridiculously high price to pay for logs.

We got together with 2 friends to make up an order for 3 tonnes which brought the price down to €100 per tonne !!

I do not think that the £/tonne will be anything like E180, this was their small quanity pice/kg.

The price for " mistura " mixed wood NOT hardwood was less.
