Credit card payment in restaurants in CV

Hi All

Have picked up on a coupld of threads that possibly paying for a meal in some of the CV restaurants by credit card could be an issue.

Can you advise as walking round with cash during the holiday really isnt preferable in this day and age...

There are a few, mainly the smaller ones. You need to either look for the card symbols on the door or ask first.

There are also plenty of ATMs in the village so that you only need carry enough cash for tonight's meal.... and tomorrow morning's bica !

Happys is one that does not accept credit cards, another is O Jardim do Farol near entrance to Rocha Brava.
Can't recall any others, although occasionally a restaurant will try to tell you that the card machine is not working and they require cash.

Maxime's only takes a portuguese card - but they are opposite the bank, so easy to sort out. I find it easier to take cash on a night out to be honest - then there are no problems. You often find that the "helpful" English banks will put a stop on cards when they are being used outside the UK - even if they have been advised that the card will be used in Europe!

A Vela on the out road doesn't accept cards either.

It is better to assume that most restaurants.....well those in Carvoeiro itself anyway...DONT take credit cards....based mainly I think on the maxim of, "what the taxman cant see....he cant grab!!"

There are plenty of ATMs though....so no problem, really.

I've always paid by Credit Card in Jota Lita and Poco Partido.

I would have thought that would be covered in the FAQ section and I just checked to find out it's not. Perhaps Mike can update the restaurant phone list to include this info. I know it's a lot of work Mike, but when you have a moment?

I did this once but so few members sent in information that it wasn't viable. However, if I do get information regarding credit cards and venues I will happily add it again. All I need is you lot to tell me what's going on!
