Timber Merchants

Post by Ant1969 »

Hi all...

I am visiting in Sept to build a wooden pergola over one of our sun terraces. Can anyone recommend a timber merchant somewhere nearby Caramujeira who I could send my picking list to for delivery prior to my arrival - I can email drawings & list of materials, fixings etc. Any help appreicated.

Thanks in advance.

Whilst I can't answer your question (sorry) I've thought about doing something similar so would be interested to know how it goes.

The only place I have found is Vendimisto - just up the hill on RHS from zoomarine towards Faro. They are essentially fencing people but stock the large section treated oposts and timber as well - otherwise its Leroy Merlin or Maxmart on opposite sides of the rd by the algarve shopping centre. I must say that Ive found it difficult as well.

Hi all,

The best timber merchants I've found is situated in Sao Bras de Alportel in the hills above Faro. It's German owned, carries a huge stock of timber and boards and has all the machinery to cut to size.

One of their products is a pine faced blockboard which I've never come across in England, very high quality and in sheet sizes of 16ft x 8ft (5mt x 2.5mt).

Fairly easy to get to from the A22

If it is rustic stuff you want take a look at SANIPINA behind IZI. You need to visit the warehouse behind the main store

Feedback on timber supplies...

Thank you for your suggestions.

I sent a picking list and drawings by email to George at

GUIDO WANNER, LDA
SITIO DOS BARRABÉS
CAIXA. POSTAL 901-Z
8150 - 016 S. BRAS DE ALPORTEL
TEL: 289840230 FAX: 289840239
http://WWW.QDM.PT

I received a quote almost immediately of €800 including all fixings and fittings which was a great improvement on the ridiculous €2,800 quote received previously. Lovely, straight and generous sections of treated timber delivered to Caramujeira exactly when they said it would arrive. These guys know their product! Only quibble is that they sent about 1,000 fixings (stainless steel, German engineered) of which I only used about 50 (not sure what happened there!).

Very highly recommended!! Thanks again.

ps Pergolas, gazebos and decking supplied and installed by Ant1969 and crew!!
A good job well done!!

Garmadeiras-Comerçiode Madeiras Lda., Urb. Bela Vista 36, 8400-856 Parchal. Tel. 282 417 747.

Take N125 towards Portimao, turn R just before bridge, across roundabout, under railway bridge and immediately on your left.
They stock all types of timber plus fittings, accessories etc. and will both advise on design and cut to size.
Prices very reasonable.
