the truth is that any house has loads of stuff for the taking as they all have to be equipped for the tourist market....as most of the villas are empty most of the time it is easy pickings...methinks though that the police could do more investigation and spend less time checking motorists papers

Having attended many burgalaries (in a professional capacity) I know only too well the effect that it has on the victim(s) - from postings during the past year it seems to be an increasing problem in CVO.
As a matter of interest, how thorough are the police investigations?
E.g. Are enquiries made with occupants of adjoining properties to ascertain whether they heard or saw anything suspicion, is the scene examined for fingerprints, do the police take posession of discarded items such as cigarette ends (DNA), do the police inform you of enquiries made & the progress? If the above are NOT done (those are basic enquiries) then it seems that you are treated as 'just' another statistic and the matter becomes one for the insurance company to sort out!
Doesn't make for good publicity for the Algarve tourist trade.

hey Mr. Welshman, no body has started to burn holiday homes owned by the english so it could be a lot worse. Don't remember too many prosecutions for those little house fires either.

Oh and did you know danger is the same in Welsh and Portuguese. Perigo.

Does this mean it was in Silves or are you referring to a house in CVO?

Croeso, ireckon its the same the world over,no body hurt,we don,t have the man power, the expertise or the training and if we do catch them they get a slap on the wrist so in fairness wheres the inspiration to knock themselvs out it must be frustrating.Dont mind yer man and his cottage burning crap,it,ll only star another slagging match,........every country has its share of headcases.......as with here in ireland most of them are imported anyway,

Sorry Guest - I was only trying to ask a few constructive questions as to the level of the police investigation. I'm still trying to fathom out some of your cryptic remarks. In relation to the burning of English homes in Wales, this happened well over 20 years ago in very small isolated areas of Wales so please don't stereotype all Welsh people as being anti English.

(P.S. I don't think I'll bother posting in future!)

Regards to ALL in CVO from a rather wet Wales.

 where I live our house is nice and tightly secured both electronically as with guards driving around the area periodically. Don't you guys have such a thing in CVO? SOme sort of Private Security Company that goes on patrol regularly? If not, wouldn't all of you Villa owners want to initiate this? MMmm I have a nose for new markets and this seems to be 1 of m!
