Does anybody have any recommendations for Health Insurance cover here in Portugal?

Medal used to offer a good policy for AFPOP members but I am not sure it they still do so. Worth enquiring.

see if you can find a credit card which gives free travel Insurance - there are lots of "premier" accounts which do this and the cost of the card/yr is usualy much less than a normal travel policy.

Most credit card insurance only covers you for a limited time, I think the question is related to those of us who intend staying for longer periods or eventually for good.
It is something we will also have to consider but I understand that good cover ( private treatment etc ) will cost but the experience of friends who have elected to go private leads us to believe that it is worth it.

We have that sort of cover through our credit card but it only applies if you are a UK resident - which we are not technically now. We do have a UK address - but are not resident in it. We all know that insurance companies will do all they can to 'wriggle' out of paying claims - it's a risk not worth taking or is it

shanagarry - I work in the insurance industry and believe me, don't do anything on the cheap. My advice would be decide on what you really need, then search around for cover that matches or gets close, then compare prices. Also, check out the company for its claims reputation - all the cover in the world is no good if claiming is difficult - the decent ones will pay out if the claim is valid - its what they are there for.
