Jota Lita!

As a regular visitor to Carvoeiro I have eaten in the majority of restaurants in the town and surrounding area.

I have to say that one of my favourites for excellent, reasonably priced food is Jota Lita! The service is superb and John is mad! My 3 year old daughter is in love with him!

I'm surprised that this eaterie doesn't appear to have been discussed much!

I quite agree and am surprised that Jota Lita is not mentioned more often.

We were in CAV in February and ate there on three occasions and were impressed by both the food and the extremely friendly service.The food and restaurant I would put on a par with A Gale which is another favourite.

After our third visit we were given a bottle of wine to bring home which was much appreciated

I agree with the above statements about this restaurant. We have stayed in Carvoeiro three times and have always made sure to eat at Jota Litas at least 3 ~ 4 times on each occasion.
John and the rest of the staff are all extremely friendly, and yes, on our last visit in May this year we were also given a bottle of red wine to take away with us.

Please remember though, never ask for the bill there!! it can be frustrating when you hear the answer. ha!ha!

I have to disagree with the opinions offered in this topic about Jota Lita.

Myself and five others ate there last night and really enjoyed our meal, but felt very patronised at the manner of one of the waiters (who, judging by the love of his own voice, may be the restaurant owner).

The man, who is about 50 years old, insists on chatting up the women at each table, offering a series of well practised one-liners, designed to flatter, but which succeed only in annoying all (especially when he is heard using the same patronising lines to the women at other tables).

Whilst that alone to be forgiven as a misguided attempt to increase his tips, his manner when speaking or listening to me (or my other male friend) was extremely rude.

Because of the ineptitude of the waiter in question, the fact that we had to point out we had been overcharged by 9 Euros and that we had to wait 15 minutes (and ask 2 waiters) for tomato ketchup for our chips, we will not be returning, but will instead go to the vastly superior Agale and Ele & Ela.

I'd make you wait 15 mins too if you'd ask me for tomatoe ketchup!

...actually the Jota Lita was always one of mine and Gary's favorites but not been there for a while. Remember one winters night just before Xmas me, my sister and Gary had a lovely meal there and a guitarist came in buskin off the street, so what with me and sis both being singers we started joining in some of the songs and entertained the crowd for a good half hour. The owner (prob the 50 year old who chats up women) put a bottle of Brandy on the table and told us to help ourselves with thanks for an entertaining evening...God we rolled up the hill that night ..All good fun done with a sense of humor

Totally agree with you Gaynor we have been going there for many years now and know John very well. He does not try to increase his tips with his banter, in fact it is the other way round we often leave with a bottle of wine or port on the house as do many others.

Well, there should be a reason for the decreasing number of customers they obviously suffer.

In peak season a diners poor experience and decision not to go back has little if any affect. There is plenty of business to go round,

It is only in the quieter times when we regular visitors return to eating out that these reviews are considered. But to counter this quality of service and food usually improves once the crowds depart as restaurants have to try harder to get customers.

Jota Lita is our favourite restaurant in CVO, and we generally go there 2 or 3 times during our stay.

John (I've never known his name before!!!) always leaves the bottle of port on the table with the bill (as opposed to just giving us a small glass each) and also gives us a bottle to take home on our last night.

We'll be there a couple of times (at least) in September!!!
