Re: FAQ corrrections

Post by TomUK »

I have been renting cars in the Algarve for at least ten years (in recent years two or three visits). Never have I been told about a 90 kph limit for the car and never have I seen anything on the hire document about this. I have used probably six or seven firms over this time, including Auot Jardim. Perhaps it is just the odd company that includes this requirement. Even the smallest cars now have five speed gearboxes and can do 120 kph without flogging the engine, so wear and tear is not so much of an issue nowadays. I remember not so long ago when the only proviso was that they wanted you to use premier unleaded 98 octane, but this has been dropped by many filling stations and they now only have standrad 95 octane unleaded.

Add the 2nd Portimao Retail Park ( the one with C&As)

Locations please of the 'new' and 2nd Portimao shopping, and where is the largest one being built?
Not a map but the details are here:

http://www.c-e-a.pt/stores/detail.php/1511

From the new bridge take the hospital exit towards Portimao, straight over at the hospital roundabout then at the next roundabout (where the underpass starts) take the road at approx 90 degrees on your right, follow the road which will lead you around a right angle bend and down a short hill to a new roundabout. C&A and the rest of the new Portimao shopping park is opposite as you approach the roundabout. (Same route you would take if you were going to Max Mat)

The development being built is the complete area between the C&A store and the roundabout on the road from the hospital where the underpass starts - you will see lots of tower cranes, road works, etc. I can't remember the name but I'm sure somebody else can supply that.

Carvoeiro and Caneiros are correct.

For Ferragudo the main beach "Praia Grande" is more normally shown as the part to the south of the fortezela (where there are 4 beach bars plus toilets & shower) rather than to the north of it (which has no facilities).

I'll leave others to check out the beaches the other side of CVO.

Look now, I have moved the marker. Is this correct?

Yep!

Worth the effort as the aerial view gives a good sense of what the beaches are like.

For mankind desist in this activity else you may have to have your backgammon board surgically removed if you get my drift

OK, most of what was requested has now been added/deleted/improved.

Now I need help with:
  • Music venues by type
Not sure what Farol means by this. Perhaps, Farol, you could start the ball rolling with a few examples.

    TV in the Algarve
Can someone with better knowledge than I please report on Sky, Freesat etc in the Algarve, pros and cons, and what kit is required to view adequately, including provision and installation of the various options?

    Snakes, spiders, mosquitos
Which ones to look out for and what precautions are most effective.
Please either post as replies else PM me.
