Fair comment HampshireRich.HampshireRich wrote:I've had mainly good meals in this restaurant and the comments in this topic just go to prove that everyone has different tastes and have different experiences. However, its more common for poor reviews to be posted than good ones.
I would however be slightly cautious about going "overboard" with negative or detrimental comments - a one-off bad experience may warrant a negative posting but remember it may just be a one-off. The restaurants on Carvoeiro have a hard job on their hands and whilst admittedly need to know if its bad could actually do with some good publicity.
If you have had a bad experience, maybe try once more just to see?
As I started this by sharing my bad experience I should point out that I have eaten at Tia Ilda many times & generally rate it as good, especially the service & the view.
For regular visitors to the area there are many choices of restaurant offering different cuisine at varying price levels. Like me, most regulars form an opinion about certain restaurants and have their favourites and conversely their "steer clear" list. I am always looking out for positive reviews about restaurants on my "steer clear" list, to encourage me to go back!

Gary and I are usually not ones for promoting back cuisine or resturants but there have been a couple of occassions with this restaurant I'm sorry to say...so the last time I commented. We always tend to post more on good results as it can be just down to personal choice or it just so happens on the night.

That's fair enough Gaynor - I just wanted to say a one-off may be just that and its unfair to publicly denounce on that experience - multiple disappointments are a different matter.Gary/Gaynor wrote: Rich,

As well as the above comments I think people should be aware of what the restaurant offers - if you are looking for a cheapish quick meal, then places like Tia Ilda, Ela & Ela etc are not the places to go to - if you do go to these places and the like and the bill seems expensive then you cannot really complain - the prices are advertised on the menus outside most restaurants. As for value for money, I think we all have a different view on that

It will be interesting to see how you view Amsterdam resturants and Dutch food on your visit.
if this is a regular occurance you are both very welcome to stay at our house if the out-laws get too much lol!! Ten mins bus ride to The Hague central station then a train which takes you direct to central Amsterdam, so easy. Think Gary wants to show you Ado Den Haag Football statium and the local bars

Hampshire Rich.....
We dine there at least twice while we are in Portugal. Usually we have a large table but sometimes just 4 and we have never had a bad experience or food there.
We find it consistantly good, but a bit of a change in menu once in while might be a good thing. Like the touch when the chef comes out and stops at each table, makes you feel like he cares.

Re: Tia Ilda
Thanks Canada, kind of you to post your review. Sounds like you think it's "reliable" rather than "rave" note consistent and change the menu? The chef came to my table last time I was there and I asked him about his recipe, he was not happy !
