Telephone and Broadband provision
We are about to move to The Algarve and need a telephone and broadband connection in our new property. We have them both in our current property but I am fearful that the bureaucracy involved in having the line/number moved and re-connected is going to take an age.
I am going to give my lawyer a power of attorney to start the process when I am in town next week but I am still concerned that it will take too long.
Can anybody suggest anything that would help me short circuit the process?

Was that from PT or another supplier?
Re: Telephone and Broadband provision
We went for Cabo( TV , Phone , IT ) as the cable was already installed as part of the building permits.

We went that route....only to find that the Cabo cabling and feed wasnt up to the bandwidth necessary for the data feed.EMM wrote:We went for Cabo( TV , Phone , IT ) as the cable was already installed as part of the building permits.
Took them a month to sort it out.

I am 'gobsmacked'. Last Friday afternoon at just before 3 I signed all the legal house purchase documents at my lawyers and had made a very specific point that it was essential I had my phone and broadband transferred from our existing property - before the end of June.
Yesterday morning at 10.05 the PT guys turned up and installed the lot - and it's working.

Perhaps we should all get our lawyers to order it!

Shanagarry, so you have fnally joined us on the " so called unfashionable side ".
If rumours are true not only do we now have you but also Jose Marinho and Annie Lennox with a villas on the way to Ferragudo, micheal Schumacher is having a new once constructed, its massive in a huge plot of land.

I heard that Jose Mourinho no longer owned the villa there. Anyone know for sure? Is Michael Schumacher's villa the huge edifice on the left as you go from Sesmarias to Ferragudo?

Believe me - I am as amazed as the rest. I didn't know the lawyers would get involved in this sort of thing - but they have. It was mainly due to the previous connection being in the name of an offshore company and after signing a few documents - they said they would do the rest - and they did

Steve - the edifice I believe you are referring to belongs to a Norwegian (can't remember the name) who made a lot of money in oil exploration. He built or rather funded the development at the coast end of Pressa de Moura. Story has it he is not short of a 'bob or two' or several:)

The development is called Vale da Pinta (nothing to do with the Golf course of the same name)

Re: Telephone and Broadband provision
I was premature in my 'celebration' of having phone and broadband efficiently connected in a timely manner.
Yes, PT arrived and installed the gubbins in the house within 7 days of the request being submitted - but it doesn't work. Hours of telephone calls have resulted in PT admitting that an administrative error has caused the problem - and until such time as that is remedied, they are powerless to complete the installation.
An engineer has turned up twice to tell me that the line is connected and working (by using his equipment) but told me on the first occasion that I need an ADSL Filter. I went to the PT shop and got one - it did nothing. The second time he showed up - I was out and he told my wife there was a problem with the phone and left. We have heard nothing since.
In the meantime, Rui at RJ Technica has come to the rescue and arranged for engineers to attend here next Monday morning to hopefully get everything sorted. He is also making enquiries regarding an acceptable alternative - but we are keeping PT 'active' - just in case. In the meantime I am using a tmn bangla larga to tie me over.
As this was not a new connection - it was a transfer from our previous property where everything worked properly - I am on the verge of committing 'murder' if I get another piece of 'advice' that does not give me a solution.
I always believed that BT was the most inefficient organisation on the planet - they have serious competition.
