Well that looks fine! but so did the presentation for the infamous square in the "village" Hope they don't use the same architect, it'll be full of stainless steel posts and falling down in six months.

Yes thats true but I read in the Portugal News that all along the Algarve the GNR are fining illegally parked campers so I don't think there is any special treatment for Ferragudo.

Anyone heard of the supposed airport expansion at Alvor??

The " new " airport if it happens will be at or close to the race track.

There is also the transformation of Lagos to consider.

It is to be the new " Monaco " with a super marina, numerours 5 star plus hotels and a mega entertainment/cinema/shopping complex.

Was all this planned before the financial crisis meltdown! I think it will be along time before these plans bear fruit. Then again, this may still go ahead as it will create a lot of jobs; a badly needed shot of investment. I wish it well

I really like Faro; it is a charming little city. It would be shame if it becomes a ghost town.

Will Faro airport still be the major hub of flights into the Algarve?

Beja airport opens soon and it is thought that some charter flights will use this as an alternative to Faro.

I do not think that the proposed " new algarve airport " if it happens will be big enough to compete with Faro.

Below is an extract from 2nd August 2007 Algarve Guide from Co-op Travel

"A new international airport is expected to be built in the Western Algarve. This is one of the mainpriorities for Associacao de Municipios Lagos-Portimao, an association recently created by the two Cameras.

The location for the new airport will be near the the new International Algarve Racing Circuit at Sitio do Escampadinho, close to Mexilhoeira Grande, in Portimao. According to the project promoters, the proximity to the racing trackis one of the main incentives to attract foreign investment.

The project location has already been given the green light from experts of the InstitutoNacionalde Aciacao Civil, Portugals Civil Aviation Authority. The planning for the future structure, which includes environmental and financial studies, began this month (June 2007) and is expected to be finished in August.

The new airport is expected to have a longer and wider runway than Faro Airport, with almost three kilometers in length and a passenger friendly arrival and departure area. The Airport will be an upgrading of the existing Municipal Aerodrome, which has a runway of only 900 metres"

I heard yesterday that the football team Portimonense got promoted to the first division so the "big guns" PC Porto. Benfica etc should be coming down south
