Vegetarian food products in local supermarkets
Vegetarian food products in local supermarkets
Hi, we are coming to Carvoeiro this Saturday for a week and wondered how easy it is to get veggie based products such as quorn mince or burgers in the local supermarkets ? Any advice would be gratefully received, and any tips on good veggie restaurants actually !

Generally speaking, the Portuguese style of eating is not Veggie-friendly, and this is reflected in the traditional supermarket range. Intermarche now tends to stock a lot of items specifically aimed at the tourist market, so is a bit more expensive, but does include a lot of veggie items.
The Da Terra farm shop behind the Fatacil is an excellent place to buy fresh organic veg.
And when it comes to Veggie friendly restaurants, I'm happy to point you to this list.

Not easy Witness - my wife buys chilled (not frozen) veggie stuff in the UK and takes it with her in the suitcase or hand luggage.

Most supermarkets now have a small selection of such products.

My daughter (29) is veggie (altho' she will sometimes eat fish so really a piscatarian) and we don't have a problem with finding foods for her, there are so many lovely fresh vegetables, salads and herbs as well as pasta, rice etc...... why buy things like quorn? you can get tofu which is really versatile, eggs, beans, pulses all readily available from the supermarkets. Enjoy your holiday.....

Just when you thought you'd heard it all - somebody throws the word "piscatarian" at you!

I know, it brought a tear to my eye
Seriously though, thanks all for the good advice.
And the reason for wanting quorn or soya based things is because we are a group of 6, with three vegetarians and 3 carnivores - but the 3 meat eaters, including me, genuinely like things like veggie sausages and burgers and are very happy to have them on the BBQ.
