Removals

Post by shanagarry »

I suspect this question has been asked many times on here but I can't find anything in recent time - International Removal.

Can anybody who has recently moved their entire home from the UK to Portugal recommend a reliable, honest and trustworthy company - who are sensibly priced please :)

Andy

Thank you - I have contacted them now.

What would also be helpful - is some pointers of those to avoid :)

we used Algarve removals to move our complete home - wonderful - no problems, on time and good price - there is a minimum of £125/m3 but it drops as you ship more. We have used them twice since for smaller loads - inluding a plasma TV - great service.

Thank you Rolf and Macassa - I had contacted them.

I am assuming the reason there are no UK based companies advertising or promoting their services is down to price - in essence it's likely to be a one way journey - if they don't have a return load?

algarve removals is a uk based company - in chemsford, and they do have return journeys - otherwise there would be a lot of lorries parked in Alcantarilha (algarve depot) :D

Thanks to everybody who responded to my request for some guidance on this matter.

I contacted 10 companies with the same request and to date I have had 8 replies - some completely off the scale but most within €300 - €500 of each other. The average assessment of the size of the load was 39m3 and the prices ranged from €3,473 to €5,973.50. The most competitive is from a company I found in The Resident - Algarve Fre****.

Has anybody got any experience of this company - good or bad :)

We contacted algarve fre**** and they were also the cheapest last year, but they never sent the price when arranged and then eventually changed it a lot, when we added a small item - so we decided to go with algarve removals

Funny you should say that Macassa - I added a piece of furniture and the price increased by just short of a €1,000 saying that the cube had increased from 39m3 to 51m3 - we won't be going there :)

yes I used them recently, very good and reasonably priced. I think they are called Algarve Fre**** Centre, think it's the same company.

Somewhere in in here - three of us have touched a 'raw nerve'. We all know who we are - but are all unknown to each other.

One of the companies we have mentioned in this series of replies/posts has decided that three of us (yours truly included) has 'slandered' his company and complained that our comments/observations are not representative of his company or the services he offers. For the record 'slander' is the act of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation and given that I and others have written our comments - not spoken them - goes someway to explain the nature of the person complaining. The accusation went on to explain how important it is to build and maintain a reputation - clearly not something the plaintiff is not accomplished at.

I use this forum for the very reason this person has complained and have posted my real experience - all of which can be substantiated by copies of e-mail exchanges - all of which are very recent. I cannot comment on that company's services having never used them - I can only write about my attempts to get a price - a very revealing experience. I have no reason to doubt that the companies I approached are all good at what they do - I choose the company I would prefer to work with.

You (Mr Remover) are clearly disappointed at not getting my business - but hopefully you can now see why - foot and shooting are words that come to mind. This forum provides a real community service by helping members to learn from and/or avoid the mistakes of others - sometimes it can only report on events that have taken place - but serve to highlight the pitfalls the rest of us should avoid. If you feel that your service to the community is different from that experienced by those who post on here - stand up and defend yourself with unshakeable facts. Demanding that the posts be removed without a robust explanation is naivety - in the extreme

If somebody has had a bad experience of a company, then that company cannot go around stating it was "slander" because anything written(ie: on a website) allegedly of a defamatory nature is libel and not slander. Also, if someone has had a bad experience of a company and what was described was true then that is a fair comment and the defence of justification/truth can be invoked. You can never be sued for the truth!

The company in question will just have to take it on the chin! Not every customer of a company will be happy and what service is gold to somebody may be plastic crap to another :? You only have to go to that Tripadvisor website. The same hotel reviewed can be praised to the skies or condemned as utterly bad!

There will be a time I will want my household effects moved from the UK to CVO so thank god for forums such as this, which is very insightive. :D
