Respect

We have just returned from another visit to Carveiro and am absolutely amazed at the lack of respect that some of the Tourists have for the local community and the people who live there and the Portuguese community.-

We have lived in the Algarve for the past five years and are moving to Carvoeiro at the end of the month as we just love the area and the Village. However, every time we visit, especially at this time of year, we see some of the tourists wander around half dressed and who show no respect for the locals and other visitors. Thank goodness we will not have to visit the Village till they have all gone, which is a shame, as there are some great establishments with excellent service.

Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to why they act like this, or is it because I have been away from the U.K for too long. No, I am not a Grumpy old man, but at least I have been educated to show manners to others.

As for the village, it is still quaint and has a lot to offer.

I think that you will find that the Portuguese have a " public " face but in private have a low opinion of the behaviour your describe.
Personally I think that it is the ultimate in bad manners to eat in public without wearing a shirt or top.
Sitting next to some fat sweaty yob is my idea of a nightmare and we avoid such places.
I won,t name one of them for fear of taking a smile of the face of those who do go there.

What you are failing to see here is that many of the barely-clad (male and female) are obliged to be so due the numerous tattoos festooned about their bodies. They disport themselves in public, going around looking like the Beano, and think they look cool!

What is worse, is those that choose their clothing to show off their tats even during colder, damper weather. I especially like to see men strutting round in the winter with a pair of shorts or crops on so that we can see their tattooed calves - nice!

Sharen and I have a name for the tats - we call them twatoos.

During a conversation in a respectable establishment in the village on Saturday night, our space was invaded by two fat tattooed dimwits who were 'moaning' at the outcome of the Eurovision Song Contest. They were wearing vests that were at least two sizes too small and were loud to boot.

That result and image is a direct reflection of the way Brits are viewed by the European public at large - bottom of the pile.

Those who are busting their asses to get in by fair means or foul are not doing so through any sense of loyalty - they know they will get handouts that far exceed anything they would get elsewhere in Europe - so off they go to wait at Calais until a nice man in a lorry gives them a 'lift'.

Saw a taxi driver the other day get two young guys to put on their shirts before getting in his taxi. I would add that it is illegal to drive here without a shirt on, and am glad to say security at most supermarkets do insist shirts are put on before entering the store.

Who ever told you that doggy doo doo about being illegal to drive here without a shirt?

I was so amussed I went down the the local GNR to confirm this and even they rolled around laughing, they thought I was drunk, they even said they would spend all of July and August fineing most of the country if this was true.

Many years ago we had a couple stay at our casa. She chose to sit on the small balcony at the front of the property in her bikini whilst builders were working a few feet away. The boyfriend later complained that the builders were staring at her. I pointed out that her behaviour was disrespectful, and asked if she would do the same thing in her front garden at home? I also asked why she did not sunbathe on the large rear terrace by the pool, where there were sunbeds that you could lie on naked and no-one would see you. He said she should be able to sit where she liked - which clearly she did!
