Hiya Ellie, wouldn't that be 'Gypsy song' by Crystal Waters? Take care!

Gypsy Woman (She's homeless)

More likely a Bobby Rydell tune:

The Alley Cat Song

He goes on the prowl each night
Like an alley cat
Looking for some new delight
Like an alley cat

She can't trust him out of sight
There's no doubt of that
He just don't know wrong from right
Like an alley cat

He meets them
And loves them
And leaves them
Like that "Catsanova" does

That's no way to treat a pal
She should tell him "Scat!"
Aren't you sorry for that gal
And her alley cat?

<instrumental interlude>

He meets them
And loves them
And leaves them
Like that "Catsanova" does

He don't know what faithful means
There's no doubt of that
He's too busy makin' scenes
Like an alley cat

And that's the sad, sad tale of a lonesome quail
And her alley cat.

Artist: Bobby Rydell -from his "Top Hits Of 1963" LP
Words by Jack Harlen and Music by Frank Bjorn
Despite the title of the LP, the instrumental version by Bent Fabric charted at # 7 in
the late summer of 1962. Danish title is "Omkring et Flygel" (Around the Piano)

Gypsy Woman was done by The Impressions and by Santana and goes:

From nowhere
Through a caravan
Around the campfire light
A lovely woman in motion
With hair as dark as night
Her eyes were like that
Of a cat in the dark
They hypnotize me with love

She was a gypsy woman
She was a gypsy woman

She danced around and round
To a guitar melody
From the fire her face
Was all aglow
How she enchanted me
Oh how Id like to hold her near
And kiss and forever whisper in her ear

I love you gypsy woman

All through the caravan
She was dancing with all the men
Waiting for the rising sun
Everyone was having fun

I hate to see the lady go
Knowing shell never know
That I love her

That I love her

She danced around and round
To a guitar melody
From the fire her face
Was all aglow
How she enchanted me
Oh how Id like to hold her near
And kiss and forever whisper in her ear

The Crystal Waters song goes:

Gypsy Woman
Crystal Waters
Music & Lyrics : C. Water - N. Conway

The winds are blowing every morning
just to do your hair now
cause she cares you all
her day oh wouldn't be right
without her make up
she's never had a make up
she's just like you and me
but she's homeless, she's homeless
as she stands there singing for money.

In my sleep I see her begging
reaching police
although her body is not mine
I ask now I do (now I do)
she's just like you and me
but she's homeless, she's homeless
as she stands there singing for money.

Aw shucks! I jes listen to the ol' grammyphone now n then.

The Gramaphone at Fond-Du-Lac

Now Eddie Malone got a swell grammyfone to draw all the trade to his store;

An' sez he: "Come along for a season of song,

which the like ye had niver before."

Then Dogrib, an' Slave, an' Yellow-knife brave, an' Cree in his dinky canoe,

Confluated near, to see an' to hear Ed's grammyfone make its dayboo.

Then Ed turned the crank, an' there on the bank

they squatted like bumps on a log.

For acres around there wasn't a sound, not even the howl of a dog.

When out of the horn there sudden was born such a marvellous elegant tone;

An' then like a spell on that auddyence fell

the voice of its first grammyfone.

"BAD MEDICINE!" cried Old Tom, the One-eyed,

an' made for to jump in the lake;

But no one gave heed to his little stampede,

so he guessed he had made a mistake.

Then Roll-in-the-Mud, a chief of the blood, observed in choice Chippewayan:

"You've brought us canned beef, an' it's now my belief

that this here's a case of `CANNED MAN'."

Well, though I'm not strong on the Dago in song,

that sure got me goin' for fair.

There was Crusoe an' Scotty, an' Ma'am Shoeman Hank,

an' Melber an' Bonchy was there.

'Twas silver an' gold, an' sweetness untold

to hear all them big guinneys sing;

An' thick all around an' inhalin' the sound, them Indians formed in a ring.

So solemn they sat, an' they smoked an' they spat,

but their eyes sort o' glistened an' shone;

Yet niver a word of approvin' occurred till that guy Harry Lauder came on.

Then hunter of moose, an' squaw an' papoose

jest laughed till their stummicks was sore;

Six times Eddie set back that record an' yet

they hollered an' hollered for more.

I'll never forget that frame-up, you bet; them caverns of sunset agleam;

Them still peaks aglow, them shadders below,

an' the lake like a petrified dream;

The teepees that stood by the edge of the wood;

the evenin' star blinkin' alone;

The peace an' the rest, an' final an' best, the music of Ed's grammyfone.

Then sudden an' clear there rang on my ear a song mighty simple an' old;

Heart-hungry an' high it thrilled to the sky,

all about "silver threads in the gold".

'Twas tender to tears, an' it brung back the years,

the mem'ries that hallow an' yearn;

'Twas home-love an' joy, 'twas the thought of my boy . . .

an' right there I vowed I'd return.

Big Four-finger Jack was right at my back, an' I saw with a kind o' surprise,

He gazed at the lake with a heartful of ache,

an' the tears irrigated his eyes.

An' sez he: "Cuss me, pard! but that there hits me hard;

I've a mother does nuthin' but wait.

She's turned eighty-three, an' she's only got me,

an' I'm scared it'll soon be too late."

* * * * *

On Fond-du-lac's shore I'm hearin' once more

that blessed old grammyfone play.

The summer's all gone, an' I'm still livin' on

in the same old haphazardous way.

Oh, I cut out the booze, an' with muscles an' thews

I corralled all the coin to go back;

But it wasn't to be: he'd a mother, you see,

so I -- SLIPPED IT TO FOUR-FINGER JACK.

…great idea Ellie….but nothing yet from the Coop & Showwwy Show….perhaps they’re working on it…I couldn’t help but notice a ‘guest’ going by the name of ‘boredguest’….should be encouraged to come up with a ‘special ditty’…..maybe there could be a competition with different categories with prizes for best ditty, worst ditty, most wicked ditty, most meaningless ditty, etc…….in the meantime, listen to this….think of that popular football chant: “ear we go, ear we go” etc….now hear this “c v o, c v o, c v o,….. c v o, c v o, c v o, oh”….. ha…beat that…. 8)

Well..youve certainly got the ball rolling Digger! Good for you :)
Will COOP & SHOWWWY follow it up..as you say they may be working on it!
I like the sound of best 'wicked' ditty (well-I would wouldnt I :wink: )..or 'nonsense' one...a best really 'lousy' one( I might be in with a chance here)
and the footie chant..ere we go......maybe ..ere we come CVO CVO....
or..maybe a tune from one of those 'naughty' rugby songs.....
Trying to think of one........
Prizes :? ? d'you mean...having your name 'up in lights' on here :lol:
come on bored-guest..ripvanwinkle...get those brain cells moving :roll:

……and here’s a new entry in ‘the cat category’:
…. “WHATS…………….new pussycat….in cv…oooh…”
