if you have an up to date disability badge in your car it is effective in Europe to use and certain toll and bridge crossings are free to.

And my wife got free admission to World of Sand

She has also used her badge in Florida, South Africa and Eire. We didn't try it in the Maldives.

I must admit, the change in parking in the square has not made a jot of difference to me. In the 5 years that I have owned an apartment in Cvo, I have only once hit the heady heights of being able to park in the square. Walking to the beach etc each day showed that it was usually the same cars parking there - which leads me to believe that they were people working as opposed to visitors. So it seems to me that there are very few people who are missing out on their normal parking space, as they could never park in those spaces to start off with! If someone has bothered to drive to Cvo then I suspect they will not then drive to another village if they are not able to park within a few metres of their chosen restaurant or bar.

I have lived in Carvoeiro for over 20 years ( on the east side and the west ) have bought up two children here, look after my 85 year old mother who also lives in the village and have you ever heard me moan about the parking, although I am in the village at least once everyday. I will admit though to having given up my postbox at the post office after it moved back into the centre of the village as trying to park on the inroad for 2 mins to find only a bill in the box did seem pointless.( I now have my post delivered to my house and save 25€ a year
Put a stop to these silly posts, and get a life.

I'm not personally affected by the lack of parking spaces having parking under our apartment I still just think the square's new layout & appearance is awful. I was waiting for a friend who was in the new public toilet, sorry information office, the other day & sat in the middle of the roundabout with all the traffic circling me & the theme to the wagon train tv series kept going through my head (I know showing my age). I think they should have the road access in front of the wine shop obviously with wide enough access for larger vehicles, access from the down hill in front of the hotel & left the rest of it totally pedestrianised.

Wasn't there a whole section on forums members, whether they were resident or not & how often the non-residents visited. I think it was another one of Michael's little projects, don't know what happened to it.

Off topic has anyone seen our new roundabout at Guia? Brilliant! 2 fat hens, a couple of bottles of wine & a couple of bunches of grapes & the Guia shield . I love it.

Its really good to me hear from full time residents who suggest that the new parking arrangements are not that much of an issue for them.

I spend a lot of time in Carvoeiro and the biggest problem is only the busy weeks such as school holidays etc, as there seems to be a lot of spanish people and unless you know the area, it is difficult to park and if you stop anywhere the GNR appear very quick to move you on or give you a ticket or fine, and if you get a fine, I don't think new people visiting will not return there. So I agree with the news item and Geraldine of Smilers that to bring new visitors to the area, something needs to be done. Sorry for my Grammer.

THe high season situatiod into the roarcon in Carvoeiro is no different now to that of past years with just a couple of major improvements, It is now possible to wal along the pavements instead of around cars, putiing at risk from traffic those forced by bad parking into the road.
It is also possible to see the square and beach at its best rather than just seeing cars.

As for the the comments from Smilers , I have not noticed any fewer drinkers . As a personal opinion if I ran it and wanted to improve business I would give the place a total face lift.
It has a premier position but is definetly down market, hand written notes advertising UK TV progs does little for its image.

Yes Ellie, they've created disabled car paking spaces in Algar Seco and Monte Carvoeiro, Monte Gordo is next on the list and to ease things a little they've given a franchise to a French company to run an absailing service down and up the cliff for disabled parkers only.

There are also spaces at the bottom of the in road outside of the Irish bar.

Sitting enjoying a drink in CVO and watching the traffic flows through the square the other day, it struck me that a medium sized roundabout with a couple of palm trees and a few nice flowers would have been a much better idea than the current ´race track´. It would have been a more familiar road feature for both drivers and pedestrians. I think it would also have taken up less space than the current track with it's silver bollards and centrepiece of benches and trees in boxes, leaving more area for pedestrianisation. People would be more aware of where cars are coming from and would not be wandering about in the middle of the traffic flow as they do at the moment.

Perhaps that will be next year's master plan!

I came down the hill from Monte Carvoeiro last Friday afternoon to get stuck in the 'mother and father' of a traffic jam. Two coaches arrived to drop people off at Carvoeiro Sol and blocked the entire system while the people got and got their luggage.

The GNR were stuck in the jam but decided to put on their blue light - go the wrong way across the road in front of the off-licence and disappear up Estrado do Farol and when clear of the jam - turned off the blue light. That was at the end of May - what's the first weekend in August going to be like?
