Can anyone help with buying

I am looking for some advice with regards to buying a property. We have found one, but finding a lawyer and suitable mortgage is proving to be a little more difficult.
We are buying a second home in Portugal (first home being in the UK).
We have been quoted what seems like extortionate amounts for legal fees and I just wonder whether we are being ripped off or whether it does actually cost so much more to buy a property in Portugal. I am aware of all the other various fees and charges we need to make, but am just really looking for a reasonably priced solicitor and a good mortgage for a second purchase.

Can anyone give me any advice, recommendations or point me in the right direction?

suggest you join AFPOP ...foreign property owners assoc..they have alot of info re property legal fees etc

Legal fees are high in Portugal. Check with several lawyers for price comparisons.

Debs G - If you care to leave an e-mail I will send you details of the very good lawyer we used. We had a bad experience of an estate agent suggested / recommended lawyer in Lagoa but then was directed to the one we used who was absolutely first rate.

We're just a few steps ahead of you having got a lawyer, and instructed her to proceed. Rather than flying back & forth from the UK to sign papers, we're granting her power of attorney. If you want to know how to set that up (I'm no expert) but will happily tell you waht was involved.

We instructed our lawyer back in June and signed over Power of Attorney. Its all just about completed now. I have to say the whole process seemed a lot more complicated and expensive than buying in the UK!
