Carvoeiro floods 1988
Carvoeiro floods 1988
Just found this in The Portugal News history pages
Carvoeiro floods 1988, 'Streets of water'
November 25th 1988. Carvoeiro & Ferragudo, houses and shops were flooded, crops ruined, and millions of Escudos damage caused. Click the links to see the front page from December 1988 and the special pull out pages 10 and 11 with many extraordinary photos of the flood during and after.

Also this: A villa for £27,300? Yes, in July 1981
A Carvoeiro developer advertised that he could build you a luxury three bedroom villa for £27,300, plus a plot of land from £5,000. Its probably fair to say that prices have gone up since then. See this full page advert.

... and we thought this past Winter was bad....
Re: Carvoeiro floods 1988
Only a few years ago many premises in carvoeiro were flooded, the beach was washed away and cars ended up in the river at ferragudo.
Albufeira centre had extensive floods in 2008/9.
At least if it happened again there would not be any cars in the square to get washed away

Re: Carvoeiro floods 1988
Jorge De Lagos is still very much around - in fact he built our existing house in Vale do Milho back in 1984 and he has also built our new one.
Jorge built a considerable amount of the properties in Carvoeiro, especially in Areias Dos Moinhos and Vale do Milho. He had a style that is immediately apparent when you walk into one of his builds - a style and quality that has endured. Jorge did not enjoy the best of times in the 90s - but he is around to tell the tale.
While Jorge is still active in an advisory capacity - the business is run by his two sons, Edgar and Nelson who operate in Rua do Baranco (just along from Smilers) and called EDL. They are good people

A digression. When we were considering buying in CVO, we had loads of very useful help and advice from them, and we too met Jorge and saw a few of his properties out of interest. Company very reliable and friendly.
