I saw in FINAC in algarve shopping centre for first time, a tv playing a 3D demo video ..you need special specs (100 euros so I'm told) but very impressive with excellent resolution , on one shot a child shoot a water pistols and the "water" lands on your glasses

3D, Tvs go on sale later this year but I have not heard apart from special transmissions of the world cup of any 3D programmes.

Cost will probably be in the thousands plus the glasses ( some thing else to lose along with the remote ).

LG have just launched a range of LED sets which ar 3D ready - whatever that means, and they are over £1500 for the 37"

Quite honestly I havent seen much point in so called HD - Ive got both in uk and in CVO and theres not that much difference - could be eyes over 60 yrs old cant really differentiate it. But my main gripe is that after being out for several years there still arent very many broadcasts in HD - even less in 3D!! so I reckon its going to be the same "problem"

As per a BBC prog on friday it is thought that there are a few million TV watchers in the UK who having bought an HD ready TV do not realise that you need an HD box with the right connections ( and subscriptions )to watch in HD.
Retailers often get customers returning to complain that the " picture " on their new expensive HD tv is no better or worse than their old CRT set.

The same will apply with 3D, expect to see the " glasses " on sale in the tabloids even though there will be few 3D sets or programmes available.

We have switched from Sky to FreeSat in Carvoeiro, since Sky kept telling us we needed a new card. We have HD as well as the usual channels, and do notice an improvement in picture, although it is not dramatic. FreeSat is available for a one off charge, and no subscription. R J Tecnica fitted ours in a matter of minutes.

Do you have an Freesat HD box and which HD channels do you receive ?

We mainly watch BBC HD, although we can receive ITV1 HD. Sometimes the HD option is offered at the same time as the SD programme, but often you have alternative programming. Another benefit is that you put in your UK postcode on setup, and this ensures that you receive programmes for your UK region (assuming you have one). We have a 1.3 m dish and suffered very little dropout during the recent wet winter, much better than we were getting with the Sky box. Hope this helps.

Hi EMM - if you are going to get HD instead of SD - the boxes in UK are half the price of portugal and as you dont need to do anything except reconnect the box, bring one over.

my 20 year old panasonic (tube) tv has packed up, so have now purchased a new panasonic lcd...the resolution is not a patch on the "old technology"...needless to say there are now no old style sets that I could find..its all flat screen tv or nothing

Unless you have HD or a very high resolution screen ( expensive ) CRT provided a better picture.

Basic FST is as you say NOT as good.
