Wood burning stoves

Hiya, can you tell me a good place to buy a small wood burning stove? Is the Fireplace shop in Porches still there? any other recommendations gratefully received.... thanks

There is a large fireplace store on the RHS of the N125 in Gaia, not far past the roundabout. When you see the sign for the chicken Piri piri restaurant Ramirez at the island, it is approx 200 m further on.

We had our 30+ year old burner door refurbed by the people about 2km out of Porches on the 125 on the left where there are several outlets. Cannot remember the name but they did an excellect job, including a chimney sweep. They have several new models on display but these are quite large and a bit expensive, but I believe thay also do refurbished second hand burners. In fact they had one identical to ours which had been fully restored. Worth a look and they are efficient. Alternatively, buy at somewhere like Leroy Merlin and have them fit it.

If you use the normal people on the road, logs are €6-8 per 15 kg (that's a standard load in PT) however Pingo had bags of 10kg for €2.50, and Pao Azucar €3.10 in early Jan. They arent as dry as the ones on the road, but they still work out a lot cheaper.

If you have a Makro card you can get bags of starter pieces for €1.60/20kg.

If you drive out on the road from Guia to Gale, There is a big place on the LHS about 3 kilometres along.

They have a large undercover area full of logs that they sell loose for 10 euros = 60 kilos. My (hired) Seat Ibiza carried 120K in the boot without a problem. I did put something down to protect the boot though

From the roundabout before Shopping Algarve on the 125 head south on the Albufeira road. In about 500 metres follow the sign for Gale

Thanks for the reply, I will look at Leroy Merlin and see what they have next month.

Dave K - the place on the N125 in Porches is the one I thought has now closed, is it still open then??

They did the work for us mid October last year. From the road and the car park it looks as if they are closed but try the door and they may well be open. The name is Centro de Lareiras, tel. 282 322 000 or 916 164 048. I must admit that since then we have not had reason to call there and they may have closed down. Hope not as the service was excellent; not just selling wood burners but all matter relating to servicing and repairs of stoves.

The company is Alvaro Bitoque tel 289 591 323 seems to be family owned,we have used them for some time the quality of wood is always consistent.
