Ferragudo Marina
Ferragudo Marina
I'm back from a wet and cold week in the Algarve! I don't mind a bit of bad weather but last time I was there, last September, we had pretty awful weather then for 2 weeks too!
Any hoo. Does anyone know anything about the proposed Ferragudo Marina or where I can look for info? My H and I are thinking about setting up a business in the area. (Him more than me as I'm the mobile beautician but I'm sure I'll get roped in!) Of course estate agents say it would be great long term as the area will become very popular etc.etc., but then I don't expect them to say anything else! Can anyone shed any light?
We think we have found a house to buy in CVO. And so I return to the UK with loads of questions I will probably be posting on here (if no one minds!)
And despite the weather I wish I was still there. Hoping to plan a swift return for June!
Thank you!

Ferragudo marina
Hi,
Cant help you too much with the new marina at Ferragudo, but do bear in mind that Portimao has lots of empty spaces and a discount is available from them for mooring.
The new Albufeira marina also has loads of spaces. The only marina which is pretty full is Vilamoura, although Lagos isn't doing too bad.
I am not sure whether the Algarve can sustain another marina at the moment so I am not sure what sort of passing trade there is likely to be. I suppose it all depends on the type of business.
Good luck with the project

There does seem to be a lot of development on the marina front in the Algarve and I did wonder whether there is need for so many new ones.
I really like Vilamoura and the marina there but we have decided we want to live in/near CVO so we are looking at the options over there.
I guess my question is whether Ferragudo is very busy tourism wise and whether this is likely to increase over the next year or two if anyone has any idea?
It doesn't really matter where I will be based as I will be travelling all over the Algarve I should imagine to wherever anyone wants a treatment!
Thanks!

As I understand it the plans for the Marina are approved. It will be on the waste ground to the left of the road as you leave Ferragudo going towards Portimao (opposite the pottery/artist studio and the Ribs restaurant). I'm told the road will move forward from where it is with a shops behind it. I guess if you need more details then the Council in Logoa is the place to go.
I hear that there are other plans for Ferragudo include some sort of promenade walk at the back of the Angrihna beach (to the right of the castle) to join up to the end of the lifeboat house on the harbour. Rumour has it that the guy who owns the castle is now is putting up some of the money for this and the beach there may be excavated again for a smaller marina (who knows maybe for his yatch!)
All in all I think that there are big plans for Ferragudo to turn it into a bigger more commercial resort so getting in soon may be a good option.
