Has Bradys been sold?

Hope not.
One of the better establishments in Carvoeiro.
Great music, atmosphere,service.
Have enjoyed many a good night here.
If sold it is probably because of the recent addition of the black stove.
There is not enough business to keep all these going.

2010 will be the year to test these establishments.
I wonder will the prices drop ??

Incomes in Ireland for those fortunate to be working will have fallen by an average of 20%.
Carvoeiro will have to go back to the days of great value for money.
I am sure it will !!

I'm not sure it can reduce prices to the same extent that Irish and British incomes have dropped. Their (and others) costs are not insignificant and closing for the quieter periods appears to be the best solution. Those who live in and around the village will always tell you not to eat or drink in the tourist restaurants or bars - as you will pay 'through the nose' for the privilege. Have you eaten or drank in Dublin or London recently - the same principle applies.

The Black Stove may have taken some of his custom but it lacks the atmosphere and ambiance of Bradys - once you've been there you quickly realise and go back across the street. On the nights we have been in the village - Bradys has the larger numbers.

Never been in Bradys but agree the Black Stove has never looked full and the one time we went in it was awful, we were totaly ignored and ended up walking out, not the best move in this climate

Joanne - you are right it is a 'soul-less' place devoid of any atmosphere. I believe they tried to copy the Alvor version - but have failed miserably. In essence they have tried to create an Irish Pub as in Alvor (not a themed one) and have failed - for now at least.

We saw the Black stove when we were out in Sept, but never went in. Used Bradys a few times in the 8 years we've been visiting, but not many. OK, when there's live music, but not really a place for us bar a couple of drinks on the odd night. Never really felt welcome in there to be fair; bar staff a bit sullen for my liking.
We're a Round Up couple, but admittedly i'm the kinda guy who loves a 'local' when on holiday and unless it really goes downhill i tend to stick to what i know and like.

The other side of that point is the Round Up - Will is always delighted to see you - even if you don't go in and are just walking by - he' s pleasant, friendly and courteous - he's just about got it right. There are a few contributors to this blog who dislike him - but as an occasional customer of his I believe he does a good job.

The Roundup is a very family place, we have been going in for years with my parents and 3 girls and their friends over the years, and have always had good times, any sign of trouble and Will asks people to leave and that is only once in all the years we have been going, we also like Carvoeiro Bar and are happy to sit in the Bar with the girls in the Roundup, the eldest is nearly 18, and never had a problem.

Will and the gang must be doing something right, because in Sept it was busy almost every night (just like past years) - best bar in town and, yes, as someone posted earlier if there's a sniff of trouble Will sorts it. When we used to come out in august a few years ago children/families always welcome.
Top bar in town IMO. Karoke nights busiest of the lot. And one thing we've noticed over the years is that it attracts all types of people that frequent CVO;the local portuguese, all nationalities - we made friends with some germans and dutch this year - young, old, the British working class, the middle class from the villas - a true classless and international bar - right up your street Emm, you being a leftie!

Sorry just don,t like Karaoke or the style of the place, it reminds me of bars in a run down seaside resort like Barry Island or parts of Blackpool .

I agree Round Up is a top bar,great atmosphere about it.

EMM I take it you must be a Havana man then? Another great bar but a completely different to Round Up eh?

We like to go where there is good " live " music or where you can have a drink in relative comfort ( like Talvez ).

The Black Stove could have made a real difference to the nightlife in CVO but its just another bar.

Its not old fogies like us who spend the real money at night and if they had made it a " dance bar " it could help to attract a younger more affluent type of holiday maker who wants everything that a village like CVO has to offer but with bars that are not stuck in the eighties.

When we are sat on our stools in Mungos ( nursing our nightly beer ) we watch groups going from bar to bar ( often not getting any further than the doorway ) looking for somewhere where they are not going to find their parents sitting in the corner.
