Ryanair Booking fees

Ryanair (love 'em or hate 'em) will from the 1st January levy an administration charge on bookings made with the Visa Electron card (promotion ended), they will, however, from today 1st December, not charge for bookings made by Prepaid Mastercard. Happy days.

I was discussing this yesterday with a regluar traveller to PT who has fallen foul of their £5/ person/booking charge.

All Ryan air has to do is increase its prices by a few quid and then NO longer charge for CC bookings.

They will do themselves a lot of good and we the poor consumer will soon forget that we are paying a bit more.

What I would like to see is 'reverse-pricing'. This is where the maximum cost is displayed and as you go through the pages you can opt out of certain extras until you get to a price that suits you. What really peed me off about Ryanair was that bloody credit card charge of £20 when going to Spain at Easter. I have vowed never to fly with them again . . . no matter what the cost.

I suppose that's true of all airlines, but I suspect they have to maintain some sort of Status Quo.

When I booked a flight with Ryanair a couple of months ago, I tried to pay online with Visa Electron as Ryanair was not applying booking charges when using this card. Conveniently, I was unable to do so as "payment with Visa Electron is not available at this time".

too nice a description michael - "just legal conning B******s" is nearer the mark - the low start price cost sucks you in and then by the time you get to the end of the booking procedure - bang! and you cant be bothered to go through it all again!

Actual story - 2 of my pals came back from Benidorm 2 weeks ago, having duly checked in online - I had warned them of all the pitfalls and told them to ensure they checked in for the return trip and got a printed form. They did this at their hotel and then duly arrived at the airport - the one form hadnt printed very well and the paper had slipped, so the bottom section wasn't totally printed. Ryanair refused to accept it and as the two bookings were made together charged them £20 each for a new printed check-in form!!

Perhaps my description is too lenient?

It was only on the TV Friday morning morning on a programme called "Rip Off Britain" concerning Ryanair and their add on charges making the end payable figure not a bargain at all, also another airline discussed was BMI baby. They also covered getting your airport taxes back when cancelling a flight, not worth it when you have an administration charge which obliterates your refund.They said the office of fair trading was looking into it. We will see.
Never flown Ryanair as they dont fly Manchester to Faro, we always use Monarch Schedule or Jet2 which are a lot more expensive than Ryanair, and do have quite a few add ons, but nothing like Ryanair and there is still no charge with them for using the Visa Electron Card.

I think the problem with Ryanair....(besides being the worst example of budget airlines), is their attitude to the customer, and the MD, O'Learys public couldnt give a toss what people think.....take it or leave it attitude.

Quietly, now Aer Lingus have been in this market for a year, there are signs of them going the same way. Faro for £9-99, but with bolt ons, more than Easyjet.
Which is a shame, because they were the best of the lot when they launched the Gatwick-Faro service at the beginning of this year.
