Its " FLY MONTH " it must have something to do with the higher levels of humidity and moisture.( or put it another way ) things ! rot rather than quickly dry up.

I never notice flies in Cvo any time other than October. This year there were wasps as well as flies. Still nowhere near as bad as other countries I have visited. And there are lots more flies where I live in the UK than where my apartment is in Cvo!

I usually stay at Monte Dourado (on the flat bit/the out road of CVO) and I can honestly say Ive never seen a fly or a mossie in that apartment....
as for wasps fmm...they destroyed all the plums on both of our plum trees...yet hardly saw a bee :(

There did seem to be a lot of flys last 2 weeks - certainly much more than the rest of the year - no mozzies though - maybe on holiday? Musing on the patio with a G&T last week, I think its to do with the house martins/swallows having gone back - they eat vast numbers of flying insects and as soon as they go,there's a fly population explosion.

Yes we saw a lot of flies and wasps last week and i even got bitten by a mossie.
Saw some Ants too. Locals say that it is because it is unseasonably warm and the insect population is
totally confused :D

Talking today with Nuno (at Nuno's restaurant) he said that there are a lot of mozzes in that part of the valley compared with the higher ground and nearer the sea - and its always 1-2 C colder at night!

You've brought back memories for me with that one Tricks.....when I worked that large garden near the International school, I would sometimes have a break and sit on the grass to eat my lunch....being in shorts, I would inevitably get 'stung' by ants. They seemed bigger there than the ones we have in UK?
But have to say I have never seen a mossie in the Monte Dourado apartment!...thank goodness :)
Anyway I always have marmite on toast for brekkie..thats supposed to keep them away :)

Dear Ellie - which seem bigger than in the UK - ants or shorts? First time Ive heard about marmite and mozzies - as marmite is made from brewing yeast do you reckon just drinking the beer might work :P

WE have found the bugs less agressive in PT, no problem with ants and wasps seem easier to discourage, ( less stressed than their UK counterparts ).
