Painting

A friend of mine has a Villa on the Val de Milho and has had a quote for painting, it's a four bedroom bungalow type with pool, any suggestions regarding tradesmen or companies you've used would be great, also just a thought, could you buy the paint in the UK and ship it over as a cost saver?

I wouldn't recommend buying the paint in the UK for use in Portugal, the paint is made very differently for different climates.

The paint in Portugal needs to be able to withstand the heat and humidity, you really don't want to be skimping on it or you will just be painting again in a years time.

One of the best places to get the paint is Cin opposite Fatacil, the guy there is very helpful if you tell him what you are planning to paint.

On this subject, we are planning to come out in November to paint the interior of our property. Can anyone recommend a good paint/supplier for this purpose?
There seems to be quite a price difference from one place to another.

CIN is a very good paint but expensive, any of the DIY superstores sell painst that will do the job for half the price.

Look out for offers in IZI, AKI. LEROY or MAXMAT.

Be careful with the cheap paint - some of it is like water. Having said that I bought some in Modelo and it was very good value. I'd suggest trying some testers before committing to the whole amount you need.

I agree, watch out buying cheap paint as to be honest you get what you pay for. We bought paint from IZI a couple of years ago and it has not lasted as well as the more expensive paint we used before, so cheap is not always good. I would still recommend CIN if you want a really good job and you don't want to be painting again in a year. The guy in CIN will also recommend any anti fungi paints/sealants etc you might need for the particular job you are doing.

I too would recommend CIN - bought interior paint in early Jan 2007 and used some to paint 2 rooms. it was still fine when the tin was opened 12 months later. The guy there was very helpful and didn't try to sell us the most expensive option (there were 4 or 5)
