sky tv satellite cards in the algarve
Re: sky tv satellite cards in the algarve
What sort of card are you using? Is it a full subscription card or a replacement for the free to view cards?
My understanding was that the subscription cards were dedicated to one box only and would not provide the same service when inserted in a different box.
The old subscription cards which lapsed into free to view could be used in any box. Unless these are quite recent Sky are not replacing them but since you can now tune channel 5 on the other channels of the Skybox most people will not lose much if the card has to be taken out and the box run on a free to air basis.

A little concerned now, will find out in 2 weeks.
Re: sky tv satellite cards in the algarve
I don't know anything about free to air or freeview.
I took out a full Sky card with sky plus which I use here in the UK in a second box. The box in Portugal is an old box which I took out from the UK. Up until I left last week I could get every channel except for Sky Films and Sky Sports live channels

sky subscription cards will work in any sky box for the non premium channels
so if you bring your sky card from uk and put it in any sky box in portugal it will give you the same channels including the itv region you recieve with the exeption of the sky sports and sky movies channels if you reauthorise [re pair ]your portugal box with sky you can get all channels [but when you take it home you will have re authorise your card ] [re pair]
if anyone wants any sky subscription cards bringing i am in the algarve next wednesday for 1 week
you need a sky uk box to work with sky uk cards

you need a valid sky card in your sky box to watch c5 [sometimes you can add to other channels but this is a bit off a faff ]
but if you bought a non sky box [FTA reciever ]you will get c5 ,
if you bought a bbc freesat box you would get c5 and also get a programm guide and easy english working and the choice of Itv region you just enter a postcode when you initally set the box up and it gives you that uk region for bbc itv c4 c5

All I can say is that the NEW sky card does not register, we were told before we came out that this could happen as once they are configured it becomes BOX senstive.

emm
your sky card should work in your pt box it does not need to register as per my other email i have tried this with the new white cards and they definately work [with the exeption of the premium channels as i said before ]
you may have a problem with your software in your pt box it needs to be the latest to work with the new white cards
Turn-off the decoder at the wall socket, or better still unplug it and wait one minute
Then, holding down the ‘back-up’ button on the front of the decoder, plug it back into the mains. Do not use the back-up button on the remote control.
Still holding down the back-up button, count to 15, or wait until all the lights on the front of the decoder are on. A message should appear on the TV screen saying that the decoder is “Updating System Software – Please wait” – do so (patiently). When you see this message, you can remove your finger from the back-up button.
Wait for around 15 minutes for the software upgrade to complete itself.
When the update has completed the decoder will restart itself automatically. Wait for 2 minutes and 30 seconds after the red light appears. If it does not, wait for a minimum of 1 hour before turning it off and on again at the mains.
in the uk my engineers use this method to quickly change over a sky box when replacing a faulty box as it takes some time [up to 2 days to complete a card pairing procedure
