ROCHAMAR - VIEWS PLEASE

Post by GrahamF »

This place has had very little mention in the forum, but we noticed on arriving that there were a lot of people eating there. Any views welcome please, asap as we only have a few days left! A few years ago we tried it and were distinctly unimpressed but it could easily have changed in that time.

Not at all impressed when we went last year - prefer new Raphael just down the road

Great position for Rocha Brava residents but has steadily declined over the last few years in my opinion :(

Jeremy + cereza, what restaurants in the Rocha Brava area would you recommend please, as we are staying near next week + don't know it that well. Thanks, dj.

Walking distance:

O Farol

O Raphael

Mona Lisa (Centianes)

Bella Vita (Club Atlantico)

Otherwise - In Town or Benagil - see Restaurant Reviews in the Forum or EatAlgarve site (Link on home page)

Hope this helps

The only other one I would add is The Pizzeria next to the Tropical bar. This is a cheaper than the others that jeremy mentioned and is good for a lighter meal. For an evening snack try RBs at the entrance to Rocha Brava. Those mentioned by jeremy are all good although a bit pricey especially Bella Vita which is the best in my opinion.

I can't understand how this restaurant is always busy as the food is really very poor (have tried it twice) - I think it has to be holidaymakers arriving for the first time and giving it a go as it's very handy for those in Rocha Brava and surrounding areas but doubt they ever go back. I haven't met anyone who has had a good meal in there yet.

The first time we went there 3 of us had a terrible meal, but my friend's wife said that it was the best duck she had ever had - at least I think that was what she said! It was also the only place I used my credit card on that trip although I had used it in the UK, and I was told by the card company 3 weeks later that it had been cloned. I have to emphasise (for legal reasons) that there was no proof where it had been cloned, but one has suspicions.

We gave it another try (with the same friends) a couple of years ago, and my friend told the waiter that it was the worst meal he had ever had on the Algarve. We shall not return there.

Having said that, my daughter and son-in-law thought the food there was very good and went several times. There's obviously no accountung for taste. Such a pity as it has a nice ambience and is very handy for Rocha Brava.

We have been to this restaurant on several occassions over the last 4 years, when we first tried it we thought it was good. However over the following years it seemed to have declined. On our last visit in August we thought that both the service and food had declined even more. The waiters used to be friendly and welcoming, we wont be going to it on our next visit.

I'd like to thank everyone for the honest views expressed. I'm pleased now we didn't go there during our stay. I have posted elsewhere that the really outstanding place we tried while at RB was Mistral. However that is a drive from RB. Our consistent favourite close to RB is Jardim de Farol. Never been disappointed there.

One that we never properly investigated on our recent stay was the Indian formerly known as Algave 2000. It appeared to be serving food but hardly anyone there and no sign outside. Anyone know what has happened? Apologies for wandering off topic.
