Post by Amanda W »

Does anyone know of any good supermarkets or food shops in the area? We will have a car so distance is not too much of a problem. :?

There is an intermarche hypermarket on the road into Carvoeiro, only 5 or 10 minutes by car from anywhere in the village. They sell everything from groceries to clothes and household equipment.

There are also many small alisuper 'corner shop' type supermarkets spread all over Carvoeiro and on most of the developments like Rocha Brava etc

There is also the indoor market which opens around 7-1 every day selling fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. It is just off estrada do farol (restaurant hill), turn left at Xico-Ze restaurant and it is on the right.

we always go to the intermarche on the road to Carvoeiro and we like to go there. The only thing is that some of the wines are cheaper in the local winery.

Lidl at Parchel on the EN125 just before the old bridge across to Portimao is also good value with very long opening hours including Sundays.

There's a Lidl in Silves too that's got good stuff at very reasonable prices. Kind of tricky to reach although it's easy to spot on the left as you motor along the river after turning right from the bridge that crosses the river. You have to take a side street back and look for the turn in to the parking lot on the left as the side street bends to the right.

May I suggest that you also support the local mini mercados which are dotted around? Many of them are part of the Alisuper chain. Most offer a good range of stuff at a good price without the queues and frustration of Intermarche type check outs.

Good ones are in the road out of town (2) and another about 200 metres up past the municipal veg, fruit and fish market.

I found that some , but, not all alisupers deliver to your villa free of charge........did not realise until later that they expected a tip......(what you learn from holidaying in the United States).....shame, he should have asked!!!!!!!!
