Drive to Portugal..
When we've sold up here (things are looking up
).. we intend driving overland to Algarve, in order to bring personal stuff clothes/ books/DVDs/ etc But Id like to ask a few questions please:
What is the procedure for keeping ones car in the country?
Can it be matriculated?
Or, would it be best to sell once we were there and buy a left hand drive/ Portuguese car?
Im a bit ignorant on legal procedure there now. When we lived there you could keep your car for 6 months (we eventually sold our BMW at that time)
Could someone please tell me what is the best way to go about things?
Thank-you very much /Muito obrigada

Hi Ellie,
Both Ktee & Shanagarry have written extensive posts about the complications of importing cars. I have no knowledge or experience myself but I think their previous posts might help you. Search for "import cars".

It says you can bring a car in for 180 days (6 months) for temporary residence...I looked at all that was needed and we meet those requirements. So looks like we can bring the old banger out there (& me as well....)
Cheers me dear x
p.s. It gave all the addresses too for information of all areas including Algarve.
