Carvoeiro Visited June 2009 Criminal Thoughts
Re: Carvoeiro Visited June 2009 Criminal Thoughts
I've posted before in reply to a similar thread. We were burgled in Carvoeiro whilst on holiday, there were 6 adults and 5 children in our villa at the time and we had only been in bed 20-30 minutes (I know this because the thieves rang my sister and my friend using my mobile). We were very careful about leaving doors and windows open both during the day and at night, and every night we would check that everything was locked up twice. We also left lights during the night for the children. My handbag was on the bedside cabinet next to my bed and it was taken, along with a lot of other things. In a way I'm relieved that I didn't wake whilst they were in my room, but around the time we would have been burgled my son came into our room and I did wake, we think he must have been woken by a noise. We might only be 'visitors' but that didn't make us any less careful, if anything we were more so. It still continues to taint holidays we take, we have returned to Carvoeiro twice, as we too love it, but myself and my husband each sleep separately so that we can be with our children, we have also holidayed in the UK and we have to do the same otherwise they can't sleep (they are fine at home because they associate it with being on holiday). The point I am trying to make is that I am offended at the implication that as a visitor on holiday I must have been too relaxed to be security conscious. Rant over, thank you.
