Car Trailer URGENTLY !!!! required

Does anybody have or know of someone that has a trailer available for hire. So we can use it for a day to transport our wrecked Susuki Vitara from Salamanca to the Algarve.

Long story but basically our son agua glided into motorway barrier on friday due to heavy rain in Spain ( it's totally lie that the rain falls mainly on the plain ) we need to get it back here ASAP or sooner.

So if you know of anybody that has a suitable trailer, we have the vehicle with tow bar, we would so appreciate it if you contact us on

Join the AA and get them to bring it here it will take a little time but thats the way

We are insured with the AA and to be honest they are about as useful as a chocolate teapot. We didn't take out the extra premuim as the policy sounded as if we were pretty well covered for recovery in event of an accident , but NO they will do it at a charge of 2100€ also as my sons accident happened after 1700 and their international department had gone home, there was no one there until the following morning to give us advice. We had to arrange and pay for our son and the car to be taken to a safe place -towing charge 100€ ( and no we can't claim it back nor for the overnight accommodation we were forced to get before we could speak to the AA , thankfully the Spanish police were brilliant until we could get there - oh don't get me started on the AA !!!! oh you did

We can claim for the car as they will declare it a write off - old car to them the repair would cost more than it's worth - but that would cost us our no claims bonus - so we would prefer not to go down this route, but that is only possible if we can get the car here to do the repair ourselves, and basically we can tell the AA what to go and with themselves.

are you sure its legal to tow a car on a trailer....whenever I have broken down I have to ring the insurance company who then send a tow truck to pick up the car and take it the garage. the fee is covered by the Portuguese insurance

As far as we are aware - British car with British reg car transporter trailer is OK on British Ins. There are several people here in the Algarve that do car rallying etc that do it. If we were towing with a Portuguese reg car then the trailer would have to have been maticulated and we would have to look into Insurance. It is also totally illegal for any reg car to just tow with a rope in Portugal.

So yes we would be OK towing with our British reg car and hopefully any suitable trailer we can find.

Thanks Baggysallyjane that is really sweet of you. We are still looking we have about 5 people at the moment that know a mate of a mate of a mate - I just hope at the end of the day it isn't all the same guy and the answer is No Go.

I don't know if this is any help to you but there is a company in Albufeira called Direct Transport that, apart from just about everything else, will transport vehicles. They might be worth contacting.
