I agree with Kteee, you need a car .In the summer when it's hot it will be a mission traipsing up the hill to the shops at rocha Brava or Centiannes. Even walking to the beach, where without a car you will be limited to Centiannes Bay, which with kids and their stuff will still be a bit of a mission.
In order to do an economic shop you need to be able to get to somewhere like Intermarche....definately not walkable.
The half hour walk into Carvoeiro will soon pall as well, especially if you have kids.
A car will also allow you to visit some of the other lovely beaches in the area.

Most renters will tell you that you dont NEED a car at VdeM, Centiannes or Rocha Brava, but you do really.

We too have noticed how many " Renters " suggest that a car is not necessary when in reality the min walking time for a fit adult is 15-20 mins into the town.

We frequently see groups/ families struggling fully laden with Intermarche bags back down the hill i.
Overheard from a group last year from one female " Oh ****** not another **** hill .

Leave your 6 inch heels at home you won,t need them.
